Remaye Campbell has joined Basford United! Not a surprise in some ways but I heard South Shields were watching him! A very underrated performer at the NMG! Another sad loss!

Sadly we lose another decent player. Remaye turned down Ilkeston's offer because he thought he was worth more. So it appears that arch rivals Basford have made him a better offer. He joins Jack Thomas who presumably was also tempted by more money at Basford. Money is the deciding factor for most players.
Lack of new signings at Ilkeston is becoming a concern and it looks like our playing budget has nosedived somewhat. I just hope Jamie can conjure up a competitive squad by August 12th.

If we are going to be relying on a strike force with a combined age of 80 we have problems later in the season!

Have we blown a large %age of the budget on Leroy this year, leaving little for the rest. I find it discombobulating that Basford have a better budget than us,

I would imagine that the budget is not as big this year. In an ideal world your income would pay your bills and pay your playing budget. In the past I would presume that Dave Hilton supplemented the playing budget out of his own pocket. Dave has now got more pressing financial issues at Scunthorpe and ITFC are trying to run as a sustainable football club. Bottom line it probably means less money for wages. This does not always mean a drop in playing standards but it will make things more difficult for Jamie Ward. There is a risk that `the team might struggle but it could all work with players who are not stars but are hungrier to succeed!

Basford have signed a lot of players since last season whereas we have signed only a few. It seems Chris Munro is making a determined effort to have a much better season than last. As far as I'm aware we haven't yet got enough players to form a squad and if any more of our players pick up an injury, as Kieran Fenton did, we will be struggling. I was told that we would have a couple of players on loan from Scunthorpe but as far as I'm aware that has not happened yet. The last I heard, we were looking for a physio who can commit to all matches and a kit man. We also seem under strength in the media team. Can anyone help!

Its a bit of a worry! Maybe it's because of the things that the older fans have been through at Ilkeston Town before. Hopefully our fears for the club are unfounded and when the real football starts things will look a lot more promising.
The club has basically shrunk the media team to the extent that it is difficult for it to function effectively. But like the football side the club may pull a rabbit out of the hat and ITFC will yet again have an award winning media output.
Us cynical oldies do worry as we feel we have been here before on many occasions. I really really hope I am wrong!

I'm the older fan - also an expatriate one - but Ilkeston surely should be a sustainable model...? Average gates for one. But also a solid community base... I trust there's no money owed on the new pitch etc., but I have often felt there's been an ambition to do too much too soon. Clearly, that's partly because of past owner wider ambitions (some good and, arguably, too many not so good...). Throwing money in is not the best model. It digs you out a hole, and maybe there is some quick glory and success - but, surely, slowly, slowly catchy monkey.
Bigging-up the Millership expenditure and Alexander achievements arguably compromise my position - but, I feel that era could & should have potentially pump-primed. Instead there seems to have been decades of owner rescue and ego.
Let's trust Ward and the current regime. Every chance that Basford might now be follwing the wrong model...
I'll start the season without Matchmaker's pessimism, and with Whiteball's underlying otimism... I also hope you get Nathan Tyson without breaking the bank (a great loan at Cheltenham Town a way back). A couple of quality 'veterans' never a bad thing, and often insprational to a younger motivated squad.

Interesting times ahead
With a limited budget we’ll see how good JW is. He’ll certainly need to be canny with his loans. However the Scunny connection (albeit only from one step higher) should help
Recruitment wise - the club had lots of good local lads who didn’t want fortunes to play for Ilkeston
Birdy Ross Remaye Stern OBH Billy Bertram Jack T Maggie Tommy Williams (aware he wasn’t local) all either left or were frozen out. In favour usually of older more expensive players. Add the Marshalls and Jamie Walker to the list and you’ve got a whole team
Great shame. And it hasn’t worked. Will lessons be learned? We’ll see
