Re: New Manager appointed

Gary Hayward had a very successful spell at Buxton despite leaving in controversial circumstances. He has also managed at Hednesford United, Eastwood Town and Worksop Town. He could be the man who understands football at this level and has shown that he can build successful teams.
it will be interesting to see if he brings in his own coaching staff and players that have played under him previously.
It was not an appointment everybody expected but fans will be hoping for a period of stability after all the upheavals over the close season.

Ilkeston Town Appoint New Manager
 about 5 hours ago  By James Gordon

Ilkeston Town have confirmed the appointment of Gary Hayward as their new manager.Former Buxton boss Hayward takes over the reins from player-coach Jamie Ward, who left the club by mutual consent following last Friday's 5-2 friendly defeat to Derby County.During his time at the Bucks, Hayward oversaw a 20-game unbeaten run and steered the club to third in the Northern Premier League table. However, he was sacked just days before their huge FA Cup first round clash with York City in November 2021. The departure of Hayward, alongside assistant Mark Ward, came as a surprise to many onlookers, but he will have another chance to impress in the Northern Premier League with the division's new boys following their lateral movement from the Southern League. The Robins begin their 2023/24 campaign with a trip to Marske United on Saturday 12 August.

Re: New Manager appointed

I remember the story about how he got the sack from Buxton …

Manager speaks out as Buxton sacks him after 20 game unbeaten start to the season - Fan Banter

Pretty disgraceful by the club that was. Looks like he was doing really well there as well. I can’t see what he’s been doing since November 21 – has he been out of the game?

If you surf the t’internet you’ll see video clips and pictures of him, but you’ll struggle to find one of him smiling.

Let’s hope he’s exactly what we need. Good luck to the guy.

Went down to training tonight along with several other supporters. Not the best of starts for our new manager as the three new players he promised didn't turn up.

There didn't appear to be as many players as usual at the training session last night which was conducted as usual by James Jepson. This was followed by a signing session in the clubhouse. I was told that the club would announce the list of signed players tomorrow.
