Only 12 days to go for our first match back in the Northern Premier League. We don't have a manager and we don't know what players we have, but we can't wait for the season to start. It's a long journey to Marske for the first match, but there's about 70 Ilkeston supporters signed up to travel so far. Such is the pre-season blind optimism. We normally have 49 fans on the away bus so there's a few extra on the larger than normal bus to Marske. The team can count on good support at every away game but this season will be different to last because many of the teams in this league have much bigger home attendances than the teams in the Southern League. 17 of the 22 NPL Premier teams last season had average attendances of over 500. Only 7 teams in the Southern Premier Central had average attendances of over 500.

Marske were managed by Curtis Woodhouse at the start of last season but struggled and looked nailed for relegation. However they replaced Curtis and they started to put a good run together and avoided hhe drop quite comfortably in the end. If they can maintain the same momentum this season they will be difficult to beat at their place. Last time I went it was a small ground and Marske is a very small town on the coast. It’s not really a seaside resort but has a lovely beach and a few pubs. Redcar is to the left and Saltburn is to its right. It’s a good run up the A1 and then through Teeside past the old steelworks!

We look like we will have some recruitment over the next few days as we look a bit thin on the ground. No idea who has signed and who hasn’t at the moment but should become clearer after Saturdays game against Notts!

Marske United finished last season strongly with 5 wins and 3 draws in their last ten matches which pulled them away from the relegation zone.
Their final placing was 16th (P42, W15, D5. L22. F57, A79, Points 50.)
Their home record was P21, Won 7, Drawn 3. Lost 11.
Their average attendance last season was 524 . Their biggest attendance was 1133 against Whitby.

Suddenly we're starting to look like a half-decent team. I think a front 4 of Hallam, Zottos, Tyson, and Walker will cause any team problems. Jamie Walker's just a joy to watch. Tyson can certainly do a good job at centre-forward. If we can, we have to sign the centre-back trialist (Luke Cox?).
I guess as things stand the starting 11 will be something like this ...
Yates
Christie Cox Fenton Wilder
Eratt-Thompson Hanson Dixon
Hallam
Zottos Tyson Walker
Tolley looked sharp last night when he came on and so did the 8 (Tucker?), and I think Woodward looks like a good keeper. Woakes shows promise but maybe needs another year until he's ready. And then you've got the 2 new lads from Scunny - Ross Barrows and Habib Makanjoula. And what about the 3 lads we had from Scunny - Young, Sembie-Ferris, O'Malley - have they left us now?

Luke Cox has now signed on for us. He looks like a promising centre-back. Haven’t heard anything about Hanson, but aren’t I right in thinking that the rest of this team are all our players – they’ve all signed on for us, no loanees?

Scunny loanees everywhere ...
So we might be playing against this guy on Saturday ...
And this guy next Tuesday ...

It's coming up to kickoff time here at Mount Pleasant, home of Marske United. It's bright sunshine and a bit windy.

Ilkeston are wearing their spotted away kit. Marske ae in yellow shirts and blue shorts. Looks like a decent crowd for our first match.
Unfortunately the seats are low and people standing in front means its not a perfect view of the corners of the ground.
The teams are out
