Missed the game because of being at work. Another great result . Yes they had one sent off but you still have to work hard to finish the game off. But the most important thing for me is the clean sheet .
Well done everyone !!!

What a brilliant night at the NMG. Our first home game in the Northern Prem was a real cracker with the crowd responding to Ilkeston’s superb performance. Gainsborough showed what a good side they are in the first half with some excellent passing and build up play and it was somewhat against the run of play when we went ahead. But after the red card it was all Ilkeston.
Two quick goals after half time put the game beyond Gainsborough and we could have scored more than four as we produced numerous chances with wave after wave of attacks. Yes the game turned on the red card but what a performance in the second half. We were queuing up to score.
Zane was brilliant on the tannoy whipping the crowd in to a frenzy of noise. It was the best atmosphere at a match for a long time.

Finally, finally, I think we might have unearthed a potential superstar – Zane on the tannoy! Not only loud enough so that you knew what the crowd was, who won the 50/50, and who came off and who went on, but he also injected a little personality – I’m sure at one point he was actually singing – Jamie, Jamie Walker, never gives the ball away … Brilliant. Top man.

Let’s not get carried away, but these are very encouraging signs.
We’ve got a team of footballers, players who are happy and confident with the ball at their feet.
It’s beginning to look like we’ve got a very good goalkeeper in Matt Yates. Luke Cox looks confident on the ball and hopefully he’ll play a part in us being less anxious as the high balls come into our box. Fenton’s just a terrific footballer, and he’ll score a good few goals for us this season. We must never take Kieran Fenton for granted.
Declan ET continues to cover every blade of grass on the pitch, and Connor Dixon is not far behind him.
Tyson and Walker have that touch of class – Jamie Walker still the one for me who’s done most to transform us. The Wilder/Walker axis down the left looks promising and I like the look of young Tolley.
Two things I noticed last night. One, the work rate and energy levels. Our players never stopped running, chasing. All hungry for the ball and committed to the cause. Looks like we’ve got really good fitness levels. And secondly, and this is something we’ve been poor at for quite a while, when crosses were coming in, players were busting a gut to get in the box to get on the end of a cross. There were times last night when we had 4 or 5 players in the box ready for a cross. It’s just playing the percentages for me, the more players you’ve got in there, the more chance you’ve got of the ball falling to one of yours.
Gainsborough were poor for me, even with 11 players, or did we make them look poor?
Really nice to see Gary Hayward come over to, and engage with, the fans at the end of the game.
Disappointing crowd last night, 529. Hopefully a couple of hundred more on Saturday.
Let’s not forget by the way, that it was Jamie Ward who brought in Yates, Hallam, Zottos, Tolley, and Tyson.

Ilkeston Town 4 Gainsborough Trinity 0
Ilkeston’s first home game was a cracker as they followed up their opening day win with an outstanding performance against the Holy Blues. Trinity were well in this game until Javelle Clarke’s red card just before half time but Ilkeston then took full advantage of having the extra man.
Trinity started strongly and Ilkeston were rescued first by Ross Barrows, then by Henri Wilder as the visitors threatened to take an early lead. At the other end efforts by Connor Dixon and Jamie Walker were kept out by Trinity keeper Dylan Wharton. Despite Trinity’s early ascendancy it was Ilkeston who went ahead with a trade mark header from Kieran Fenton on 36 minutes following a free kick. The turning point in the game came five minutes before half time when Clarke was dismissed for a two footed tackle on Declan Eratt-Thompson near the corner flag.
Ilkeston struck early in the second half with Nathan Tyson breaking free and placing the ball out of Clarke’s reach into the top corner of the net. This was followed by a fine save by Wharton to deny Jordan Hallam. A few minutes later it was 3-0 after Fenton’s perseverance created the opportunity and Jamie Walker headed home Hallam’s cross to thunderous applause. The NMG was rocking as Ilkeston produced wave after wave of attacks putting the Trinity defence under severe pressure. Another goal had to come and it came on 71 minutes when Walker turned in a cross from the right. Trinity still carried a threat and Yates was forced to make a fine save from Jack Moore-Billam to preserve his clean sheet. Ilkeston continued to create chances as they attacked down both flanks and a fifth goal looked inevitable but the nearest they came was a Ross Barrows thunderbolt which was deflected inches over the bar by a defender.

Harsh, harsh red card. What a dick. He's hit him just below the knee with 2 feet. Dec has done well to get up off the floor.
