Although I haven't been to a game yet ( hopefully going Tues night ) the start has been brilliant. I am sure like other fans I was worried for us this season in our pre season games . But omg what a change now .

How can we go from fearing a relegation battle to looking like playoff contenders so quickly. In the first three games we've just got better and better. We've not only beaten Workington today we've absolutely murdered them. We've scored six and it could have been more. We hit the post three times. We now go to FC United with genuine hopes of a result which was insane a few weeks ago.

Ilkeston’s excellent start to the season continued with a big win against promoted Workington. The side from Cumbria started well with winger David Symington looking sharp and causing problems but on 5 minutes Ilkeston went ahead with Jamie Walker heading in from a corner. A desperate block by Ross Barrows prevented Symington from equalising and a superb last ditch tackle by Kieran Fenton also denied the visitors. At the other end Nathan Tyson got past keeper Jim Atkinson but his effort from a tight angle hit the post. On 24 minutes Barrows doubled Ilkeston’s lead with an absolute screamer into the top corner. Three minutes after that Ilkeston were again thwarted by the woodwork when Jack Tolley’s effort came back off the post. Workington pulled one back just before half time with a splendid solo effort by Aidan Roxborough who evaded two tackles before firing home.
Workington started the second half strongly and created several chances. Matt Yates twice came to Ilkeston’s rescue but on 58 minutes it was Ilkeston who added to their lead through Jordan Hallam’s expert finish. Before Workington could recover It was 4-1 when a Hallam corner was swept goalwards by Fenton and a touch by Declan Eratt-Thompson took the ball past Atkinson. On 68 minutes Barrows nearly repeated his first half stunner when he saw Atkinson off his line but this time the keeper scrambled back to tip his precise lob over the bar. A few minutes later the post denied Ilkeston for a third time following a corner. Ilkeston were now dominant and Tyson made it five after rounding the keeper and finding the net from the narrowest of angles. Walker scored his second to make it 6-1 in added time, smashing home a loose ball in the box.

Like many others I feared for the club this season especially after we got rid of Jamie Ward just before the start of the season. However it is sometimes great to get it wrong and so far it looks like many of us did. Whatever Gary and his team has done it is working so lets look forward to Tuesday as it appears we have no need to fear anyone in this league!

Scored a tremendous goal in the first half and nearly repeated it in the second half.

I've been really impressed with this player. He's really strong and committed to the cause. It's a pity we only have him for 3 months. I hope Scunthorpe will agree to extend of his loan period.
