The manager's thoughts ...

Obviously after such a build up today's result was a massive anticlimax but it was so hot out there. In such conditions the first goal was going to be crucial. It's going to take a few matches for Deakin to get to know who his best players are and for the players to get used to each other. I wouldn't have left out Dixon.
I thought Worksop were far better than Ilkeston in the first half. They looked much more like scoring than we did although Waite went close when he rattled the crossbar. That's five consecutive defeats but the support was brilliant. Keep the faith. It always takes time for a new regime to settle in.

Northern Premier League
Ilkeston Town 1 Worksop Town 2
After such a build up to the game following the return of Ian Deakin it was always a possibility that the result wouldn’t match the hype and so it turned out. Two early Worksop goals didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the occasion but it was enough to give the Tigers all three points. The match was played in searing heat and was punctuated by many necessary water breaks.
Worksop got off to a flying start when Liam Hughes scored with a bullet of a header from Terry Hawkridge’s corner after 7 minutes. Ilkeston hit back with a fine effort by Tyrell Waite which rattled the crossbar. Worksop continued to threaten and after fine save by Matt Yates they doubled their lead when Paul Green avoided a challenge and fired home on 23 minutes. Three minutes later it could have been 3-0 when Hughes headed narrowly wide. Waite had an effort go just wide then Worksop had a escape following a scramble in their goalmouth but at half time the visitors were worth their lead.
Ilkeston came out for the second half with more determination and a Taylor Anderson fizzer flew past the post followed by a Declan Eratt-Thompson effort also wide. Declan Howe was put through by Jordan Hallam but Tiger’s keeper Paul Cooper raced out to deny him. At the other end Luke Hall went close before Ilkeston’s persistence finally paid off. Howe did really well to hold off a challenge and find Connor Dixon who hammered in from the edge of the area on 62 minutes. Worksop responded and Yates saved well from the ever dangerous Hawkridge. Howe chased a long ball forward but Cooper got the block in. Five minutes from time Tyson’s cross was almost sliced into his own goal by Hamza Bencherif then Cooper saved brilliantly from Jamie Walker to deny Ilkeston a point.

Even after losing our last four matches we have made a better start than last season.
After seven matches last season we were 18th . We had drawn 4 four times and had seven points (P7, W1, D4, L2 , F12, A11, Pts 7)
Ilkeston v Basford is the only match in our league next Saturday, (due to us both being knocked out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle.)
If we get the three points it will lift us from 12th to 7th.

Is it true Ian Deakin has despite the defeat yesterday been awarded Manager of the Month for September?

Someone said, "yesterday didn't feel like a defeat". I agree with that. It was like when we lost at home against Shepshed in the penultimate match of our promotion season. It was just a set back that didn't matter.
Hopefully next week we can return to winning ways because If we lose at Basford it certainly will feel like a defeat.

Been watching town for far to long but the roar when we scored yesterday was very loud.
For 10 maybe 15 minutes we played some very good football but the legs went from our players with 10 minutes to go. Must say Kieran Fenton and hendi wilder are good player but can't defend.
Interesting times ahead

I'm not sure why the ref gave Worksop a free kick when Cox got a boot in his chest but he did us a favour when he only gave Fenton a yellow card near the end.. Apart from that I thought the ref did well and got most things right..
