Notts County v Ilkeston Town MATCH DETAILS

Notts County 4 Ilkeston Town 2

This was another excellent workout for the fledgling Robins against a very nimble and athletic Notts side. The Magpie made an excellent start with a disallowed early effort being followed by the first goal on four minutes. On ten minutes Ilkeston were two down as Notts were tearing The Robins apart down the wings.
Elliot Hodgetts-Young was manfully holding it together at he back and Ilkeston started to settle down. Eventually Ilkeston scored through Paris Simmonds to make it 1-2. Notts however stormed back to score two further goals before half time. Notts made wholesale changes at half time and Ilkeston gave some of their squad a run out. The Robins had much more of the play in the second half and scored the only goal with six minutes remaining to make it a 2-4 respectable scoreline!
Ilkeston will not come up against a forward line as mobile as Notts in the Midland Football League Divison One. It's a good job because they looked a bit shell shocked in the first half. They did however keep playing passing football and knuckled down and deservedly got back into the game. Ilkeston did have a different keeper in goal and he made a number of important saves to keep the score down. Hodgetts-Young exuded calm at he back in the absence of Ian Robinson and Paris Simmonds always looked like he could compete up front.
Off the field it was good to see Ilkeston legends Dave Harbottle, Nigel Jemson and John Humphries at the game! But pride of place must go to Alan Hardy owners of the oldest League club and the newest non league club! Notts being 154 years old and Ilkeston Town being seven days old!
