And my prediction was let me think!! 1-1Before the game I would have been very happy with 1-1 but not being there it might have been two lost points. I can't wait for the first hand reactions later.

Re: Tue 26 Sep 23 : Ilkeston Town v Macclesfield : ko 7 45pm

.
Tue 26 September 2023
Northern Premier League
Ilkeston Town  1  Macclesfield  1
A draw against the bookies favourites to win the league was not a bad result as the visitors dominated possession for much of the game but Ian Deakin’s team defended well and after Macclesfield made a late breakthrough they stormed back and found an equaliser.
The Silkmen made the better start and produced an early chance for Sam Heathcote who headed over.  On 20 minutes Kengni found Luke Duffy who should have done much better but he blazed over. Ben Starkie replied for Ilkeston with a shot that fizzed wide and a cracker that was just too high but the teams went in level at 0-0.
Duffy was Macclesfield’s danger man and his run and cross created their first chance of the second half. Starkie’s deep cross then had Macclesfield keeper Conor O’Keefe back pedalling but the ball dropped the wrong side of the crossbar. On 70 minutes Macclesfield went ahead through Kane Drummond’s close range header from Kengni’s cross. Ilkeston replied with a Jamie Walker effort which was deflected wide. The game changed on 79 minutes when Macclesfield captain, Laurent Mendy was dismissed  after a yellow card for a foul was followed by a second yellow for arguing about it. Ilkeston immediately took advantage as Jordan Hallam swung in the ensuing free kick and Jamie Walker’s glancing header in a packed goalmouth found the net despite O’Keefe’s best effort to keep it out. Either side could then have won the game. O’Keefe made a brilliant save and a Starkie effort flew across the face of goal as Ilkeston threatened but then Macclesfield had a chance following a swift break out.

Last Night’s attendances :
Marine 3 Radcliffe 2               1222
Ilkeston 1 Macclesfield 1       993
Warrington 1 FC United  0        756
Worksop 2 Matlock 0                681
Whitby  4 Marske 2                   631
Workington  2 Lancaster  1       581
Stafford Rangers 1 Hyde  2      461
Morpeth 1  Guiseley   1            318
Ashton 2   Bradford   1             234
Atherton 1 Bamber Bridge 2     226

After holding our own against Macclesfield I think it’s safe to forget any pre-season relegation fears we may have had. We seem to be defending better under Ian Deakin. After conceding 2 goals against Worksop in his first game in charge, we had clean sheets at Basford and Lancaster and conceded just one last night against Macclesfield.
Prior to his arrival we conceded 3 at Mickleover and 4 against Whitby and Bradford.
With Deakin bringing in several new players it is inevitable that some players will have to move on. Some have already gone and more will follow including some of the more established players.

Jamie Walker's equaliser last night against Macclesfield makes him the league's joint top scorer with 10 goals.
Jonathon Margetts (Matlock) also has 10 goals.
High scoring Radcliffe have three players on 5 goals.
