Well I have come to conclusion we are not a cup team ........ Might as well to give the other team a by .
Hallam scored two but we just can't seem to hold the the ball up in the centre forward area .

Awful
I would say disappointing rather than awful. We didn't defend as well as in previous games. Wood took the game to us and caused us plenty of problems especially their number 7 Jai Verma. It was a game that could have gone either way and we had our chances before Walsall Wood's late winner. Their keeper Kieron Boucher produced at least three outstandng saves in the second half.

Sat 7 October 2023
FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round
Ilkeston Town 2 Walsall Wood. 3
Walsall Wood progressed to the next round of the FA Trophy with a late winner after keeper Kieron Boucher’s heroics paved the way.
Wood started strongly with Jai Verma looking menacing but it was Ilkeston who scored first when Jordan Hallam stroked home L’Varn Brandy’s pass. The lead was short lived though as Joey Butlin replied with a precision free kick which went in off the post. Wood continued to show attacking intent and went ahead on 28 minutes when Daniel Gyasi prodded in Varma’s cross. Four minutes later parity was restored as Hallam levelled from close range. Zak Goodson was then close the giving Ilkeston the lead but was denied by a fine save by Boucher who pushed his goal bound shot round his post. This was followed by an excellent save by Matt Yates at the other end who tipped Butlin’s power drive over.
On the hour mark, Hallam looked certain to complete his hat-trick but was denied by a brilliant Boucher save. A Butlin header for Wood was only just too high before Boucher was at it again with another outstanding save to deny Goodson as Ilkeston looked for a winner. But it was Wood who snatched the lead with five minutes left when Gyasi tapped in from close range. On 89 minutes Boucher tipped over Cieron Keane’s effort then Kieran Fenton’s last gasp header was just too high as Wood held out.

We can't be at our best in every game. I say well done to Walsall Wood. They scored the goals so deserved to win. Personally I felt no negativity towards the Wood officials who were clearly ecstatic at their win. If we win at Radcliffe next Saturday we will be just as happy.

Had we won we would have been playing against Guiseley at home in the next round.
Matlock and Mickleover are the only two Derbyshire clubs to make it into the 1st round proper.
Some cracking ties to be played
Macclesfield v Halesowen
Worksop v Miccleover
FC United v Radcliffe

The goals from Saturday. We had enough chances to win 3 games and after being so good in recent games the defence had a bad day. Such poor goals to give away ...

I was asked why Ian Deakin was named as a sub. The answer is that Harvey Woodward has gone to Gresley Rovers on loan to give him some match practice.
