Another Radcliffe corner. It goes out.  Great tackle by Anderson.   Goal no. 3 for Radcliffe. And it's a cracker.     0-3.          65 mins

Re: Sat 14th Oct 23 : Radcliffe v Ilkeston Town : Ko 3pm.

Chance for Ilkeston as the ball flashes across the Radcliffe goal . Thought we'd got one back but its ruled out for offside.  Think it was Alex Marshall who headed in.     still 0-3.    70 mins

Re: Sat 14th Oct 23 : Radcliffe v Ilkeston Town : Ko 3pm.

This is Ilkeston's best spell just now as a shot goes over the bar. Morgan effortf for Radcliffe is deflected out for a corner. Ilkeston close again but Radcliffe scramble the ball away.         0-3.      75 mins

Walkers shot is spilled by the keeper but he gets away with it as it goes for a corner. Much better from Ilkeston's perspective this half.      0-3.    83 mins

Re: Sat 14th Oct 23 : Radcliffe v Ilkeston Town : Ko 3pm.

Ilkeston unlucky again.   Then Radcliffe go close .
Full time and a  comprehensive 0-3 defeat.  No complaints,  Radcliffe the better side

But Ilkeston much better in the second half and deserved a consolation goal for their efforts.

Re: Sat 14th Oct 23 : Radcliffe v Ilkeston Town : Ko 3pm.

Radcliffe were far and away the best team we've played against. We were outplayed all over the pitch in the first half. We had just two chances both of which came before Radcliffe went ahead . Goodson’s effort stopped by the keeper’s foot and Fenton's header, brilliantly tipped over. After that it was all Radcliffe. Attacking wing back Jude Oyibo was unstoppable for the home side.
The second half was much more even after Ian Deakin made the three changes. Radcliffe's third goal came after some Ilkeston pressure but it was a cracker.  In the end  0-3 was a fair reflection of the game over the 90 minutes. My Ilkeston best player was the unflappable James Perch.

Re: Sat 14th Oct 23 : Radcliffe v Ilkeston Town : Ko 3pm.

.
Sat 14 October  2023
Northern Premier League
Radcliffe  3  Ilkeston Town  0
Ilkeston’s journey to North-west Manchester proved fruitless as high scoring runaway league leaders Radcliffe were too strong. Ilkeston had two early chances to take the lead but after that they were second best.
Four minutes in, Zak Goodson broke free but Radcliffe keeper Mateusz Hewelt stuck out a foot to deny him then five minutes later a goal bound Kieran Fenton header from a free kick was brilliantly tipped over. Radcliffe then took control and forced numerous corners before Brad Jackson put them in front on 20 minutes with a lob over Matt Yates which left the Ilkeston players claiming he was offside. Ten minutes later Radcliffe nearly scored again when Jordan Hulme’s effort was just too high. On 40 minutes Oliver Thornley’s  downward header was just the wrong side of the post but in first half added time Josh Hancock finally doubled Radcliffe’s lead from the edge of the area after Hulme had wrong footed the Ilkeston defence with a back heel to set up the opportunity.
On 55 minutes outstanding wing back Jude Oyibo fired over as Radcliffe continued to press. Ilkeston Manager Ian Deakin then made three substitutions which brought about a positive response. Jamie Walker’s effort brought a good save from Hewelt and a free kick was deflected wide. At the other end a close range effort by Hulme was diverted into the side netting. Radcliffe  increased their lead on 64 minutes and it was the best goal of the game scored by Gareth Evans with a bullet of a shot into the top corner. Ilkeston then had a goal disallowed for offside after Alex Marshall had headed in. Hewelt could only parry Walker’s shot before saving Sam Parker’s header from a corner as Ilkeston tried in vain for a consolation goal.

Re: Sat 14th Oct 23 : Radcliffe v Ilkeston Town : Ko 3pm.

Cox and Anderson would have started for me - why would you play your best midfield player at right-back? We looked much better in the last half hour when Anderson came on and Dec was back in midfield.

Wonder why they didn't show Alex Marshall's disallowed goal.

Radcliffe's Match Report

Match Report - Radcliffe 3-0 Ilkeston Town
Kieran Wilson  14 Oct

Goals from Brad Jackson, Josh Hancock and Gareth Evans gave Radcliffe all three points to see off play-off chasing Ilkeston, who were unbeaten in four league matches at the start of the day, also gaining a clean sheet for Mateusz Hewelt.
From the first whistle, Radcliffe were on the front foot as Jackson won a corner inside the opening 30 seconds, but was unable to beat the first man. Despite gaining three corners inside five minutes, the home side couldn’t test Matt Yates in the Ilkeston goal.
The first chance of the game went the way of the visitors, Zac Goodson broke away on the counter attack before dribbling into Mateusz Hewelt’s near post but his powerful, driven effort was saved by the legs of the ‘keeper. In the 9th minute, Kieran Fenton almost headed Ilkeston in front from a free kick. After Luke Joyce brought down his man 25 yards out, the Robins captain rose highest to meet the ball but his header was tipped over the bar by the Radcliffe shot stopper.
Moments later, Josh Hancock turned on the ball cutely before playing to skipper Jordan Hulme down the left-hand channel. The forward worked hard to beat his man and fashion a shot but the opposition defence did well to block the effort, with the ‘keeper able to hold onto the rebound. With 20 minutes on the clock, Radcliffe took the lead through Brad Jackson. The winger ran down the right-hand side, and with a delightful chipped effort he found the back of the net, opening the scoring with his second of the season. Not long later, the opportunity to double the lead presented itself. After the ball was worked to the right flank, Jackson delivered a teasing cross into the danger zone for an unmarked Hulme, unfortunately for our number nine, he was unable to keep his effort down and it blazed over the cross bar. Radcliffe knocked on the door again in the 35th minute with a series of deflected efforts, the visitors continuing to defend well despite going behind. The Boro went close again in the next five minutes, Hulme attempted an outside of the boot shot that Yates was able to match.
On the cusp of the half-time whistle, in-form man Josh Hancock put Radcliffe two goals in front, scoring his third of the week. Hulme’s tricky run from the right touchline ended with a back heel, this set up the strike for his former Altrincham teammate who picked out the far corner of the net from 20 yards.
The second half began similarly to how the first ended, with pressure on the Ilkeston goal. Jude Oyibo danced past Dec Eratt-Thompson before he attempted to pick out Hulme in the middle, but a combined effort from Yates and Perch scrambled the ball clear. On the 60-minute mark, Radcliffe were controlling the game well and looked the most likely to score again, the hosts continued to try and reach the visiting goal but as the second half appeared to be flowing well, a triple change for Ilkeston disrupted the game.
Radcliffe would make a switch of their own however, as Gareth Evans replaced Lois Maynard in the 56th minute, which would go on to become an important substitution in the moments that followed. It was the substitute who secured Radcliffe’s third of the afternoon in the 65th minute, taking Jackson’s pass in his stride before firing a bullet into the top left corner of the net, leaving the visiting goalkeeper with no chance as he was rooted to the spot.
Ilkeston thought they were back in the contest as Alex Marshall headed past Mateusz Hewelt, but the celebrations were cut short when the linesman’s flag was raised for offside. The Robins attack came alive after the triple switch, beginning to threaten the Radcliffe goal on multiple occasions. Their best effort managed to be hooked clear from underneath the crossbar by Luke Joyce, with a stellar piece of defending.
The contest fizzled out as Radcliffe looked to protect their first clean sheet of the month, having not shut out the opposition since leaving Atherton Collieries with a 4-0 victory, just over a month ago. As the referee signalled for the full-time whistle the majority of the 1109 in attendance applauded, confirming that Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley’s side moved onto 30 points from a possible 33, extending our lead at the top to six.
In our next game, we visit Hurst Cross to take on an in-form Ashton United team who, similarly to today’s opponent, are currently sat in the play-off places. Join us on Tameside next Saturday to cheer on the boys in blue!

Apologies for stating that Luke Cox came on as a second half sub. It was in fact L'Varn Brandy who came on. The confusion was due to Ilkeston's Number 15 shirt going missing. So when Brandy came on he was wearing the No 17 shirt which was Cox's shirt number on the team sheet.
And my poor eye sight didn't help.
