With one win and five defeats in our last six matches we really need to pick up points from our next three consecutive home matches starting with Ashton United.
Our opponents on Tuesday night are also having a barren run with three draws and three defeats in their last six. This has seen them fall from 2nd to 7th. So both teams will be desperate for a win.
Ashton’s home form has been much better than their away form, 19 of their 27 points have come from home matches.
Ashton’s away record is : P8, W2, D 2, L4, F8, A18, Pts 8

I had a feeling that teams travelling to away evening matches in our league did significantly worse than if it was a Saturday match.
I checked the results of all of the evening games played so far and here are the results
Total evening kick off games so far 62
Home wins 40 (65%)
Draws 8 (13%)
Away wins 14 (22%)
Ilkeston’s and Ashton’s Tuesday night results so far fall into this pattern:
Ilkeston:
Tue night home games: A win against Gainsborough) and a draw against Macclesfield
Tue night away games : Defeats at FC United and Hyde.
Ashton:
Tue night home games : 4 wins against Basford, Bradford, Morpeth and Matlock
Tue night away games : Defeat against Warrington and a draw against Gainsborough.
So let's hope home advantage in an evening game works in our favour tomorrow.

Those nine points from our first three matches are starting to look important because since then we've only picked up 14 points from 14 matches

Tue 21 November 2023
Northern Premier League
Ilkeston Town 2 Ashton United 2
Ilkeston were twice ahead in a first half full of chances but had to settle for a draw after Luke Cox’s red card just after the hour mark. Jamie Walker almost scored a dramatic late winner but his free kick rattled the crossbar.
Both teams showed attacking intent from the start. Ilkeston went ahead through a Jamie Walker penalty after a handling offence by Ashton defender, Bernardo Couto. Nine minutes later the scores were level when James Hardy blasted home a right wing cross from close range but parity only last two minutes. L’Varn Brandy finished off a fine Ilkeston move in style firing past Tom Scott. Not for the first time Ilkeston were indebted to James Perch for keeping them ahead with timely tackles and interceptions as Ashton started to create the better chances. Matt Yates made a huge save for Ilkeston on 37 minutes when Keilen Adams broke free and was one on one with Ilkeston’s keeper. With time and space he looked sure to score but it was Yates who came out on top with a crunching block. Just when it looked like Ilkeston would go in ahead at half time Ashton produced a stunning equaliser though Nathan Lowe who unleashed a cracker from the edge of the box.
Both sides continued to attack after the restart and Brandy was very close with a shot that flew past the upright. On 63 minutes Cox received a straight red when he hauled back Adams who was through on goal. The resultant free kick presented Ashton with a real chance but Ilkeston survived. After that it was a case of Ilkeston holding on to a point as Ashton looked for a winner. But it was Ilkeston who came closest to grabbing all three points when Walker’s free kick slammed against the crossbar with five minutes remaining.
