Cracking game in front of a big crowd. Walker was closest to scoring when his shot thudded against the post. The first half was probably even but Marine really went for it after half time. Much better performance than of late. Perch and Cox were defensively sound and Brandy was our main threat until he was injured. Every player played a part in preserving a point. Yates was superb in goal and was my MOTM.

Northern Premier League
Marine 0 Ilkeston Town 0
In front of a big crowd and on a day when freezing conditions saw eight out of 11 fixtures in the NPL postponed, Ilkeston produced a battling performance to take a point from promotion hopefuls Marine. Ilkeston were closest to scoring when Jamie Walker’s free kick thudded against an upright early on but Marine upped their game in the second half and the Robins defence was severely tested.
Ilkeston started well and an early effort from Walker was only just wide before he was even closer on 9 minutes when Marine keeper Felix Goddard got a hand to his free kick to turn it onto the post. Two minutes later Luke Cox’s header was only just wide. Marine were also creating chances and Matt Yates did well to save Sol Soloman’s effort. After a blistering opening 20 minutes defences started to take charge but Ilkeston almost scored just before half time when a Cox header was cleared off the line by Joseph Ferguson.
Marine started the second half with much more determination and Manasse Mampala had their best chance of the game after Louis White set him up but his hurried shot was off target. Ilkeston had a chance on 55 minutes when Goddard couldn’t hold onto to a shot but defenders scrambled the ball away. Ilkeston were then under increasing pressure as Marine started to dominate. Just after the hour mark Marine were very close to scoring when the ball ricocheted around Ilkeston’s area but Yates eventually grabbed the ball leaving Marine appealing in vain for a penalty. Towards the end Ilkeston were hanging on and on 87 minutes Marine had a great chance when a cross found the head of Chris Doyle in space but his header flew wide. Then in added time Yates produced a brilliant save to deny Soloman and preserve a point.
