Walker so unlucky as his shot hits keeper's trailing leg after good ball from Waite,  At last a spark of v intent from Ilkeston.    Parker sees red.     Ilkeston  down to ten men.        1-3.      82 mins

The long journey to Workington brought no reward as Ilkeston ended up well beaten. Prospects looked good when Luke Cox headed Ilkeston into a 5th minute lead from a corner but after that Workington always looked the stronger side.
Yates was soon in action saving from Sam Hetherington. On 12 minutes, Reds winger Dav Symington created their first serious opportunity after breaking into Ilkeston’s area and Cox did really well to head away the danger. The busy Yates had to race out to clear then had to scramble back quickly when Symington saw him off his line but the attempted lob was slightly off target. Jamie Walker had a chance for Ilkeston but on 32 minutes Workington’s pressure was rewarded when Symington equalised with a vicious strike from the edge of the area. Just before half time Ilkeston had a decent spell of possession and Connor Dixon and Ben Starkie combined well before Jim Atkinson saved Starkie’s low effort. 
Ten minutes into the second half Workington were ahead when a cross from the right was turned in from close range by Steven Rigg. This produced a spark of retaliation from Ilkeston and Tyrell Waite’s effort was blocked by a defender but Workington were to score again on 69 minutes. The goal by Kitt Nelson looked to be slightly fortunate as it appeared to take a deflection past Yates. Again Ilkeston tried to retrieve the situation and a great pass by Waite created an opportunity for Walker who was really unlucky to see his goal bound shot hit Atkinson’s trailing leg. Ilkeston’s hopes of a come back ended when Sam Parker picked up two yellows inside a minute and was dismissed. Workington added a 4th goal through Dan Francis in added time to cap a disappointing day for Ilkeston’s travelling supporters.  

 

Whilst our performance wasn't good. let's not forget that Workington are a decent side and included several loanees from higher league clubs. And the late change to driving up there didn't help.
