Ilkeston can consider themselves unfortunate to concede It was a scruffy goal but they all count.

Great cross by Walker but Bland is there again.  Cursons shot hits a defender.  Bland saves again .

. A fourth consecutive defeat but it was a much better performance today. On a heavy pitch, Whitby deserved to win because they took their chances. Shane Bland, their keeper had an inspired game and things could have been different if Alex Marshall's shot against the post had gone in. Also at 0-0, Whitby’s Priestley Griffiths might have seen red for an horrendous tackle but astonishingly he got away with a yellow. Debutant Tom Cursons showed some good touches

This was a much better performance than of late by Ilkeston but unfortunately another defeat as promotion contenders Whitby adapted better to the heavy going. After all the rain it was a surprise that the game went ahead but despite the conditions the bumper Bank Holiday crowd at the Turnbull Ground saw an entertaining game. The first half was evenly contested but after half time Whitby scored the crucial goals. 
Ilkeston started well and on 5 minutes a cross from the left found Connor Dixon in space but his shot cleared the bar.  Two minutes later Junior Mandal had a similar chance for Whitby and his effort was wide. The tricky Mondal then created an opportunity for Lewis Hawkins who was also off target. Shane Bland then produced an outstanding save to deny Declan Eratt-Thompson. Jamie Walker for Ilkeston and Alfie Doherty for Whitby both had efforts fly too high before Alex Marshall was really unlucky to see his attempt slam against the post. A Whitby defender was then very fortunate not to see red for an horrendous tackle as Ilkeston started to get on top. Ilkeston debutant Tom Cursons had a golden chance on 39 minutes but fired over. Just before half time Whitby nearly had the lead when Daniel Rowe’s header from a corner hit the foot of a post.
The second half saw both sides create chances but it was Whitby who grabbed the opening goal through defender Rowe forcing the ball over the line on 59 minutes. Three minutes later it was 2-0 when a scuffed shot by Mondal hit one post, rolled across the line and went in off the other post. A Jamie Walker free kick was saved by Bland as Ilkeston tried to hit back. Cursons tried to curl a shot past Bland after cutting inside but Whitby’s inspired keeper was catching everything that came his way. A Whitby counter attack ended the contest on 84 minutes when Stephen Walker applied the finishing touch.
