Despite Ilkeston's 5-3 defeat they are still 10th in the table and despite gaining three points today Macclesfield are not mathematically certain to avoid relegation and could still be caught by Bradford Park Avenue!

Deaks' thoughts. Perhaps just a tad frustrated with Jamie Walker

Northern Premier League
Macclesfield 5 Ilkeston Town 3
Robbie Savage was elated after his team’s comeback win against Ilkeston but it could have been different had the Robins not been reduced to ten players when leading 3-2. Macclesfield finally pressed home their player advantage in the final five minutes after a valiant effort to keep them out.
The match started at a frantic pace. A Lindon Meikle effort hit the post before Macclesfield swept down the other end and had the ball in the net but chalked off for offside. Then on 5 minutes they did score through Tunde Owolabi who burst down the left side before firing past Matt Yates. Two minutes later ilkeston were level through Tom Cursons stabbing home following a corner. Macclesfield then found the net again but this time it was disallowed for a foul in the build up. Ilkeston went up the other end and Jamie Walker was inches wide from an acute angle with keeper Dylan Berry stranded. All of that happened in a very lively opening 10 minutes. On 19 minutes Ilkeston were ahead with Jonathan Wafula's perfectly placed header from Declan Eratt-Thompson’s cross. Just before half time John Rooney levelled for Macclesfield with a superb drilled shot into the far corner of the net.
Macclesfield started the second half strongly but it was Ilkeston who regained the lead with a stunning free kick from some 40 yards out by Tom Marshall to the delight of the drenched Ilkeston fans behind that goal. Two minutes later though Jamie Walker received a second yellow and was dismissed. There then followed an all out assault on the ilkeston goal and on the hour Matt Yates made an amazing double save first from Lewis Fensome’s header then from Owolabi’s follow up. On 70 minutes Owolabi was close again when his effort rattled the Ilkeston post and then the same player saw another attempt cleared off the line as Macclesfield turned up the heat. The equaliser finally came when Sam Heathcote was brought down by Luke Cox and Rooney converted the penalty on 75 minutes. Macclesfield went ahead on 85 minutes through Owolabi before Rooney completed his hat-trick wrapping up for game for the Silkmen on 88 minutes.

.
The game was expensive to watch and poor value for our supporters who were drenched by the second half deluge of rain in the uncovered area allocated to away supporters. But the match itself lived up to expectations with eight goals, the woodwork hit twice and two disallowed. A brilliant free kick goal by Tom Marshall then that amazing double save by Matt Yates added to the excitement. Can’t fault the ilkeston players for a superb effort. Walker’s sending off was the turning point because before that we looked capable of defending the lead and scoring on the counter. What a frantic start to the match. It could have easily have been 3-3 after 10 minutes. With lightning speed down the wing Macclesfield were always threatening to score and they eventually made the extra man count in the final five minutes. There were some heroic defensive performances but MOTM for me was Tom Cursons who ran himself into the ground up front. Great support from the Ilkeston fans as always but it must have been a very uncomfortable journey home in wet clothing.

Really good match yesterday in which both sides played well. Great advert for non league football. Super ground and great atmosphere. Well done to all Ilkeston supporters who did the Club proud. It’s great to win but to be gracious in defeat is a virtue.

Yeah I have been looking and commenting myself. The Macc fans being very positive about the fans and our players except for one player . They are saying that our support was fantastic even in the rain they ( us) didn't stop.
After the game I was shouting to each player that we were proud if them.
Nice if the Macc fans to clap our supporters after the game .
