Alnwick Town v Killingworth 09.03.24 Northern Football Alliance

Alnwick went into this game with high hopes of securing three points against bottom of the table Killingworth and when they took the lead through Joe Fife on 24 minutes it only seemed a matter of time before they added to their tally. However Killingworth had not read the script and after their keeper made an excellent save from Fife they broke and scored. Alnwick were rattled and in injury time in the first half conceded a second. Killingworth looked one of the weaker sides that Alnwick have faced this season so the home fans were confident that normal service would be resumed in the second half. Again Killingworth had something to contribute themselves and they defended stubbornly keeping Alnwick at bay. Alnwick did not make their keeper make a meaningful save in the second half despite having most of the possession. The visitors were also down to ten men after having a player sent off and had two players sin binned but Alnwick huffed and puffed but could not create any chances.
The result was fair because Killingworth took their chances and Alnwick in the second half were at times woeful with several key players having very poor games.Despte the result Alnwick are still second but their chances of catching in form Wallingford seem to be decreasing rapidly. Next week weather permitting, they make one of their longer journeys to Haltwhistle Jubilee to try and get their league push back on track.
