FA Cup Finals and EX Robins!
Its FA Cup Final week!! According to our records there are only two players who have played in an FA Cup Final and played for Ilkeston Town. Can you name them both? Have I missed any others? one of them you should definitely get but the other I would be stunned if you got it. There was a third who was a sub in a final but he did not make an appearance. Kenny Burns must be a possible... and a guy Ilson sold to Chelsea/Arsenal(?) for a fiver(?) back in the late 19thC maybe?

Ralph “Bomber “ Brown was a sub for Aston Villa in the league cup final I believe

The first one everybody should get but the second one was one I only came across by chance. Plym Rob is is on the right lines though! Ralph Brown played in a two legged League Cup final for Villa but never played a league game. He then moved toNotts County before signing for Ilkeston.

It’s Alf Shelton! He also played for England and in two FA Cup finals for Notts County around about 1900 a fess years before me and John A started watching Ilson. Alf Shelton is another interesting character and I plan to a piece on him for my Ilkeston Town Legends series.
So that’s the answer unless Alex finds another John Tudor lurking in the murky undergrowth!
