There's now a possibility of another friendly on Thursday night (1st August 2024). It's not yet confirmed but leave a space in your diary. Also something we all feared now seems imminent.

It's a fast start. A chance for Ilkeston but the header is wide from the left wing cross. Another Ilkeston chance after the keeper parries and the ball runs free. Early days but Ilkeston on top so far. 0-0. 9 mins

Ilkeston shot hits the crossbar - so close. Trip by Walker is penalised and he gets a ticking off. Good passing by Chesterfield but they're not getting forward . Good effort by Cursons but keeper somehow gets in the way of it. 0-0. 15 mins

Own goal by an Ilkeston player from some distance as Leivers can't get back to retrieve the back pass.
1-2. 70 minutes. A gift of a goal. It was Tom Marshall's og

Nice play by Wafula under pressure. Yet another corner won by Koby trickery. Ilkeston free kick on very edge of area. Close to being a penalty. Perch takes it but lifts it over the bar.
Full time. Ilkeston 3 Chesterfield U23s 1
Turned out to be a comfortable win against the Chesterfield youngsters.
Pity we gave them a goal.

Thank you to Chesterfield for sending over 20 players for the match last night at such short notice. They were obviously decent young players or they wouldn't be at the club. But we totally outplayed them from start to finish.
In my opinion, our three trialists again performed well, and I wonder if any of them has impressed Ian Deakin enough to get signed.
Last night we were without probable starters Matthew Yates, Connor Brown, Lindon Meikle and Mitchell Robinson and then Declan limped off. The player that impressed me most was Koby. He has come leaps and bounds and was outstanding last night when he came on in the second half.
Our defence is now looking very strong with real competition for places. If you ignore Tom Marshall’s gift of an own goal last night then that’s four games without conceding. I’m not sure what our best defensive line up is. James Perch was excellent again last night as was Tom Marshall.
Tom Cursons is still with us but our best striker couldn’t find the net last night after being thwarted on several occasions by Chesterfield’s keeper who had an excellent game. L’Varn Brandy was our main threat in the first half.
It looks to me like we have now hit the fitness levels required for the start of the season. Hopefully against Harborough on Saturday we will see Ian Deakin play what he thinks is our best starting Xl. It then remains to be seen if we are good enough to make a strong start in this tough league which then enables us to make a challenge for the playoffs. I feel quite optimistic for a good season.
