FC United of Manchester have signed former Manchester United youth goalkeeper Ollie Byrne ahead of the 2024/2025 season.
Byrne came through the ranks at United and has also played youth football for Championship sides Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City. The highly-rated goalkeeper, 26, is a two-time Welsh Premier League winner from his time at Connah’s Quay Nomads. He kept 28 clean sheets and conceded just 31 goals across both seasons. There, he also gained European experience in both UEFA Champions League and Europa League qualifiers.
Byrne was Altrincham’s number one during the 20222/23 season, making 37 National League appearances.
FC United manager Neil Reynolds said: “We’ve been in discussions with Ollie for a number of weeks now, and it’s great to get the deal signed. “Ollie is a big character and he’ll bring extra quality and experience to the team. We’re delighted to have him onboard for the season.”
Byrne arrives at Broadhurst Park having spent the final month of last season at beaten Northern Premier League play-off finalists Macclesfield. He made eight appearances for the Silkmen, including in both play-off fixtures against Worksop Town and Marine.

If he was the keeper against us then I don't think he was any good

They've also signed Adam Le Fondre. 37 years old now but he scored goals for Hibs in the Scottish Premiership last season. Look forward to seeing him play in a couple of weeks time (Sat, 17th August).

I didn't know he was still going. Bloody goal machine in the lower leagues.
