Matchman. You are the man! It needs to be said. So I do, ever so slightly, apologiise for wanting the score in the right order.
What a great result on Tuesday. I do really need to come to come back to SE Derbyshire to see the team now... It's hard work not watching (all so many Ilson teams in those years since the late 1990s. And yet, still wanting them to do great). You are doing an AMAZING job. (And White Ball too). So do please take it on the chin. So, many of us rely on you!
Nigel Overton.

Some highlights from the game ...

Very lucky not to concede a pen last night, but then very unlucky not to get one on Saturday.

plymrob -  Thank you for showing your appreciation of my mediocre efforts. I do sometimes wonder if I'm just doing this for my own satisfaction.
As you are probably my one and only fan I would like to do the score updates the way you like it ie home team first, away team second but I'm set in my ways and prefer to always show Ilkeston score first, and opponents score second. If I were to change this, my small number of followers would probably be thrown into confusion.

May I say that I find it remarkable that you have such a lasting affection for Ilkeston when you live so far away and you follow the club's progress as keenly as you do. Thank you for contributing.

NPL Round Up - Tue 20 Aug ‘24

There is a new leader in the Northern Premier League’s top division, as Hebburn Town took top spot following a 2-1 win over Gainsborough Trinity. Trinity became the first side to score past the Hornets this season, as they took the lead through Declan Howe. Hebburn equalised 10 minutes later through Olly Martin and secured the three points in the second half thanks to Amar Purewal’s third of the campaign. The newly-promoted side are now the only remaining team with a 100% winning record after four games, as both Macclesfield and Stockton Town dropped points.

Robbie Savage’s side failed to win for the first time this season thanks to a second Thomas Cursons equaliser in four days, as Ilkeston Town came back from a goal down again to secure a point.

And two goals inside the first 15 minutes for Morpeth Town condemned Stockton to their first defeat of the season, despite an early second half goal from Adam Nicholson. It’s a win that lifts the Highwaymen off the foot of the table following three straight defeats to open the campaign.

Elsewhere, Worksop Town put eight past Matlock Town with no reply in a truly clinical performance, as seven players found their way onto the scoresheet. Worksop had only scored once in the opening three games, but now find themselves with the joint-best attack in the league alongside Stockton and Hyde United as they shoot up to sixth. Nicky Law’s side, meanwhile, fall to the foot of the table ahead of their trip to Lancaster City on Saturday.

Warrington Rylands also picked up their first points of the season as they played out a goalless draw with Matlock’s opponents this weekend.

Lancaster City remain unbeaten in the league, with three straight draws following their opening-day win over Basford United.

Hyde United shot up to second in the table after goals either side of the half from Harry Bunn and Ben Kershaw delivered a 2-1 win over Basford United.

In the night's other games, Prescot Cables remain in search of their first win of the new season after they were held scoreless for the third time this term in a 2-0 home defeat to Workington. The Reds, in turn, picked up their first three points of the new campaign and moved into the top 10.

The only other NPL game that featured goals came at Harrison Park, as Mickleover came from a goal down early to win 3-1 against Leek Town, securing their first win of the new season.Brendon Daniels gave the hosts the lead inside eight minutes, but three unanswered strikes from Andy Dales, Dylan Edwards and Stuart Beavon saw the away side move above their opponents into 14th.

Three more goalless draws were played out in the division as Ashton United, Guiseley and Whitby Town drew to Bamber Bridge, Blyth Spartans and FC United of Manchester, respectively.

Results - Tuesday 20 August
Ashton United 0-0 Bamber Bridge
Guiseley 0-0 Blyth Spartans
Hebburn Town 2-1 Gainsborough Trinity
Hyde United 2-1 Basford United
Ilkeston Town 1-1 Macclesfield
Lancaster City 0-0 Warrington Rylands
Leek Town 1-3 Mickleover
Morpeth Town 2-1 Stockton Town
Prescot Cables 0-2 Workington
Whitby Town 0-0 FC United of Manchester
Worksop Town 8-0 Matlock Town

Re: Tue 20th Aug 24 : Ilkeston Town v Macclesfield : Ko 7 45 pm

.

After drawing with Macclesfield we have six points from four matches ie 1 win and 3 draws.
This is the same as if we had won 2 and lost 2.

But we are unbeaten and surely being unbeaten is more satisfying

In each of our drawn matches we've come from behind so they don't feel like bad results

The win at Mickleover made up for only a point against Gainsborough and the point at FC United was a point better than last year. A point against the mighty Macclesfield has to be an acceptable result.
