Walker to Hutchinson whose shot is blocked for a corner. Another corner. Nothing from it this time. Now free kick to Ilkeston wide left.
Full time and an easy win against a mediocre Leek.

I was quite critical Ilkeston's performance in the first half. A few supporters I spoke to didn't agree with me.
I was critical because in my opinion Leek were the weakest team I've seen in a while. and we sunk to their level. We played a whole lot better against Hereford in the Cup replay and lost.
Fortunately we improved significantly in the second half and got the result we wanted.

I saw the film of the rain and it must have been hard to see the computer screen in that weather! Joining aside they did seem to move very quickly when the ref called a halt. It looked awful!

Northern Premier League
Leek Town 1 Ilkeston Town 3
Tom Cursons took his tally of league goals into double figures with a brace at Leek Town. Ilkeston’s win lifts them to 7th in the league but in a game lacking in quality it was easy to see why Leek have struggled following their promotion last season.
The first opportunity fell to Leek’s Dara McGuiness chasing a through ball which Matt Yates raced out to claim. For Ilkeston, a Jordan Stevens corner was met by a Harvey Kirby-Moore header which was saved by Leek keeper Dino Visser. Ilkeston went ahead with a scruffy goal on 14 minutes when a Stevens free kick into the crowded goalmouth was bundled over the line by Cursons. Ilkeston dominated possession but on 25 minutes Leek grabbed an equaliser through Diego Edwards latching onto a loose ball in the area after Ilkeston failed to clear. A Tom Marshall header for Ilkeston was just too high then Visser did well to stop Cursons from scoring at the back post following Colin Daniel’s driving run and cross. Despite Ilkeston’s dominance, the first half ended level.
Four minutes after the restart Cursons restored Ilkeston’s lead when a sloppy Leek pass was intercepted by Brandy. He quickly moved the ball to Cursons who lifted his shot over Visser and into the net via the underside of the crossbar. Ilkeston’s crossbar was then rattled by McGuiness’s close range volley from Brendan Daniels cross. Soon after, Brandy twisted and turned in the Leek box before firing inches too high. Cursons then got on the end of Connor Dixon’s cross with a glancing header which flew wide. There was a scare for Ilkeston when McGuiness made a break from half way but he was flagged offside. On 63 minutes Brandy’s persistence was rewarded when he forced his way past two defenders and fired into the far corner to make it 3-1. There was a moment of anxiety for Ilkeston on 76 minutes when a collision between Visser and Cursons resulted in Ilkeston’s striker needing lengthy treatment. Both sides made several substitutions and Ilkeston continued to make the better chances with Jamie Walker volleying wide and Casey Johnson’s effort hitting a defender before time was called.

A solid, professional performance against a poor team. One of those games where nobody played poorly, but MoM for me was Colin Daniel. Really stepped up to the plate in midfield with Dec and Meikle not starting.
Deaks' thoughts ...
Great commentary from the stadium announcer at Mickleover yesterday during the downpour. 'Wet army' ...

Extended highlights from the game yesterday. Probably a little too much footage of the physio giving the Leek keeper treatment, but there you go. Some slow-mos of the key action. Was TC off-side for his second? Did LV handball it? Some you get, some you don't. We thought when TC got clattered towards the end it looked like the ref had pointed to the spot for a penalty, and that's what the footage seems to show.

LEEK TOWN'S MATCH REPORT
INJURY HIT LEEK FALL TO ILKESTON
Jonathan Eeles
It was a bad day at the office for Leek Town as a poor second half display handed Ilkeston Town all three points, in truth there was little quality from either side on show but it is was Ilkeston who took their chances when presented.
Leek were very much changed from the previous Saturday losing three of the starting eleven who had done so well at Kidderminster, Alex Hurst, Liam Edwards and Ollie Shenton all unfit for selection whilst Billy Reeves was still nursing a knock. Ollie Heywood, Nathan Okoume, Dara McGuiness, Brendon Daniels and a debut for Diego Edwards all came into the the starting eleven.
The game started evenly but it was Ilkeston who broke the deadlock on 14 minutes, a foul on the left hand side resulted in a free kick when L'Varn Brandy was fouled outside the penalty area. Jordan Stevens delivered a good free kick just in front of Dino Visser who punched the ball against Ollie Harrisons legs for the ball to ricochet into the Blues net for an own goal. Tom Cursons pealed away in celebration claiming the goal, but any replay confirms the own goal.
The Blues drew level just after 11 minutes with a good move down the right hand side, Adam Porter produced a deft chip to McGuinness who whipped the ball across the face of the goal from the bye line, there were a few bobbles in the box as Ilkeston tried to clear but Edwards turned at close range to strike the ball over the line to score a goal on his debut.
The Robins continued to push for the remainder of the half but Leek held firm with both teams heading into the interval drawing level.
LEEK TOWN 1 - ILKESTON TOWN 1 HT
Just after the break the leagues top goal scorer Tom Cursons struck, Leek lost the ball cheaply just in front of the penalty area and Brandy delivered a delicate chip to Cursons who finished clinically past Visser. There was a strong suspicion of offside for the goal but the players appeals went unheard.
The Blues almost got back into the game straight away when Daniels from the left produced a lovely cross into the area, McGuiness met it full on with half volley with the ball crashing against the cross bar. A corner ensued and another half chance was presented to the Blues when Yates fumbled in the air in front of Harrison before he recovered.
Ilkeston pressed again and Brandy produced a shot from the edge of the area which sailed over but he was not to be denied and on 63 minutes Leek misery was complete when Brandy picked up on a loose ball and powered through to score past Visser. The Leek players once again were enraged, and rightly so, as the match highlights confirmed that Brandy had handled the ball outside of the area to push the ball into his path, but yet again the referee and assistant referees would not be moved despite having the the benefit of being radio microphones and a coach sat in the stands.
This really knocked the stuffing out of Leeks resistance and with a two goal lead Ilkeston managed the remainder of the game well to secure their victory. The game passed without much incident apart from 15 minutes from the end when the man in the black was once again the talking point.Visser came to collect a bouncing ball at height but collided with Cursons, this was a nasty coming together but nothing more as both players were entitled to go for the ball. The referee immediately pointed to the spot for a penalty to the dismay of the Blues players, however during the period of treatment he changed his mind, seemingly receiving feedback via the radio microphones that were being worn - whether this was from the assistant linesman or coach sat in the stand is not known.
The referee blew the final whistle, Ilkeston had been the better side in the second half but had received more than a little help from the man in the middle.
LEEK TOWN 1 - ILKESTON TOWN 3 FT
Josh Brehaut will welcome a full week for players to recover before the Blues make the trip to Prescot Cables on Saturday 28 September in NPL league action, its then a very quick turnaround with another away trip to Lancaster on Tuesday 1 October.
