Sat 2 Nov 24 : Ilkeston Town v Blyth Spartans : ko 3pm

Troubled Blyth Spartans return to action this Saturday at the NMG.
Their prevous two scheduled fixtures were postponed due to the resignation of certain officials.
The club owner announced that he had put the club up for sale after many supporters boycotted their last game.

Three players who were on loan at Blyth have been recalled by their parent clubs.

.
All eyes will be on the Ilkeston v Blyth result with this match being Spartan's first game after their problems became general knowledge resulting in the League forcing them to postpone two home matches.
So far, there have been no updates about their ability to resume home games, Nothing on their website or Twitter accounts.
The Northern Premier League are saying nothing for the time being but will be ready to pounce on them if they don't  quickly comply with it's standards.
Personally, I don't think the NPL will allow them to continue postponing home matches so they'd better get their house in order immediately or risk being ejected from the League.

All teams who have had their visits to Blyth postponed would subsequently have to make the long journey on a Tuesday night which the League would consider disadvantageous and therefore compromising the integrity of the League.

The Blyth players may be rested but they're also without three loan players. I doubt if they have made any new signings whilst being in the "waiting to be sold" mode, so it may be a depleted team that makes the long journey to Ilkeston.

Blyth Spartans are bottom of the league table with 9 points from 12 games

All things considered this has to be an Ilkeston win and by a comfortable margin. But as every one keeps saying anyone can beat anyone in this League.

The squad may be rested but they are also depleted as many who were on loan have returned to their parent clubs. The problems at the ground were caused by the Secretary, stewards, volunteers and turnstile operators all resigning due to their dissatisfaction with the owner Irfan Liquat who is trying to sell the club. I would presume that as soon as a buyer is found the staff will return and the club can rebuild!

As I have read it it's a safety criteria issue because of the resignation of certain posts at the club . If they havent come back or got anyone to do the jobs their home matches can't be played ....
I can't see the league making them play because of the safety criteria issue but know me I might be wrong .

Re: Sat 2 Nov 24 : Ilkeston Town v Blyth Spartans : ko 3pm

Rather than throw them out of the league one solution could be that they play their home games behind closed doors until they are able to meet the required match day standards.  Harsh but better than ending up like Marske.

We don't know the cause of the resignations but it must have been pretty serious for such drastic action to be taken by club officials. I do hope they can find a solution and resume playing home matches.

Re: Sat 2 Nov 24 : Ilkeston Town v Blyth Spartans : ko 3pm

Apparently Blyth Spartans youth team are at home on Friday so I suppose there must be either staff back or enough to get the game on. Also there are rumours that there is a statement coming out this morning sometime from the club about the current situation.

The takeover of Blyth Spartans has been announced earlier today. So I presume everything will be fine now! Or I will it?

Club Statement
Posted By BSAFC Media Team on 31st October 2024

Blyth Spartans AFC are delighted to announce that we are now a community owned football club. A new not-for-profit community interest company (CIC) has taken over the majority ownership of Blyth Spartans thereby securing the future of the club for the benefit of the Spartans fans, the community in Blyth and the wider Northumberland Area. Blyth Spartans 2024 CIC has been established by a group of local businessmen, all of whom are longstanding club sponsors, together with the Spartans fan group, Green Army, and with the support of the Football Supporters Association  All members of the CIC have a long association with the club and the town, and a demonstrable long-term commitment to both. With the club sponsors involved committed to financial support of the football club, the CIC will be asset-locked, meaning that none of the members can profit from their involvement and the club’s future is protected.  Martin Trinder, a club sponsor, one of the local businessmen involved in the CIC, and interim club chairman, said:  “The famous Blyth Spartans club is a hugely important asset for its fans and the whole community, and as supporters ourselves we want to secure its future as part of the community. This is a case of existing sponsors with a proven track record of commitment to the club stepping up and taking responsibility for building its future”.   Kevin Miles, chief executive of the Football Supporters’ Association, added:  “Community ownership of a football club through a CIC, with the involvement of fans and the local community, is the best guarantee of a permanent future for a club. Even club owners, like players and managers, come and go, but the fans and the community are with a club for life. Having grown up in Blyth myself, I know just how important the Spartans are, and I am delighted a new era of community and supporter ownership of the club has begun.” We extend our thanks to outgoing chairman Irfan Liaquat for his constructive assistance in transferring ownership of the club to the community.  We can also announce that former Blyth Spartans manager Tom Wade will take charge of the team for this weekend’s away fixture at Ilkeston Town, pending the appointment of a new management team.  In addition, the club’s excellent volunteer team led by Colin Blackett, who ensure that Croft Park can host games, have also agreed to return to their roles with immediate effect.  The club will make further announcements on future plans next week.
Howay Blyth!

Re: Sat 2 Nov 24 : Ilkeston Town v Blyth Spartans : ko 3pm

Good news for Blyth! I am sure Kev Miles was involved with Alfreton at one point and he might have been present when the supporters had a meeting at the clubhouse when Ilkeston Town went under in 2011.

Re: Sat 2 Nov 24 : Ilkeston Town v Blyth Spartans : ko 3pm

Just checked there are two Kev Miles. One is involved in Supporters Club Ownership and I think the second is the former Director and Club Shop guy from Alfreton Town.

Matchman is unable to provide full updates on Ilkeston Town v Blyth Spartans today but we will have a reduced quality service provided by myself and any willing posters. My posts will be brazenly stolen from anywhere possible as I live 193 miles away from the New Manor Ground!
