Goals by Harvey Kirby-Moore, Jamie Walker and Declan Eratt-Thompson enabled Ilkeston to move into the playoff positions. Spartans finished the game with ten players when their keeper Michael Hogan was sent off five minutes from time after receiving a second yellow card.
Ilkeston started the stronger and Walker and Lindon Meikle both saw shots go narrowly wide. Billy Gordon showed some nice skill in finding Michael Woods who fired over with Blyth’s best attempt. But on 14 minutes Ilkeston were ahead. Hogan parried one attempt then Walker’s shot was charged down but Kirby-Moore was there to ram the loose ball home. Kirby-Moore was soon prominent again finding Tom Cursons who was denied by Hogan’s save. Ilkeston’s pressure brought a second goal on 35 minutes when a fine move was brought to fruition by Walker’s superb far post header from Declan Eratt-Thompson’s cross. Two minutes into first half added time Hogan came charging out of his goal to clear a forward ball but Cursons got there first. The two collided and Hogan was shown a yellow card.
A curling effort by Blyth’s Isiah Cornet brought an early second half save by Matt Yates but Ilkeston were soon back in control. Eratt-Thompson’s free kick found Callum Minkley whose header was turned onto the post by Hogan. The third Ilkeston goal was quality. Jordan Stevens did really well before sending Eratt-Thompson racing away down the right. Ilkeston’s midfield maestro, back to his best after injury, finished the move emphatically with a powerful drive past Hogan and into the bottom corner of the net. On 83 minutes Yates did really well to save a Spartan’s effort by Lucas Reed but two minutes later his opposite number Hogan lost his bearings and handled the ball outside of his area resulting in him being shown a second yellow. After some deliberation, Blyth skipper Nicky Deverdics donned the goalkeeper jersey and he successfully saw out the remaining minutes.

Macclesfield extended their unbeaten run to 15 games in the Northern Premier League, with results elsewhere meaning they opened up a 13-point gap at the top of the division. The Silkmen were ruthless in front of goal yet again, netting five en route to a 5-1 win over Lancaster City. The Dolly Blues took the lead inside four minutes at the Leasing.com Stadium through Dylan Thompson but were unable to maintain their good start, resulting in a third league defeat of the season.

Macclesfield’s lead at the top of the table grew further on Saturday after nearest challengers Worksop Town slumped to their fourth league defeat in five away at Workington. The Reds had the lead at half-time but were pegged back by Jordan Burrow’s ninth of the season. Ultimately, a late own-goal from Regan Hutchinson proved to be the difference as Workington picked up a big three points after consecutive league defeats.

Hebburn Town were unable to make up ground on top spot either, as their game with FC United of Manchester ended 1-1. A debut goal from Joao Gomes was cancelled out by Declan McLoughlin deep into second-half stoppage time, as the Hornets were forced to share the points with Mark Beesley’s side.

Stockton Town were able to capitalise on dropped points by the teams above them, joining Worksop and Hebburn on 28 points thanks to a tight 1-0 win over Matlock Town. The Gladiators stood resolute throughout the majority of the game, but a 77th minute strike from Josh Scott broke the deadlock and secured a fifth straight league win for Michael Dunwell’s side.

Elsewhere in the top five, Ilkeston Town were able to maintain their play-off place with a commanding 3-0 win over Blyth Spartans. Goals from Harvey Kirkby-Moore, Jamie Walker and Declan Eratt-Thompson extended the Robins’ unbeaten league run at home to eight games.

Towards the foot of the table, Warrington Rylands climbed out of the league’s bottom four with a convincing 3-0 win over Basford United.

Whitby Town also picked up their first win at home in the league this season, as they ran out 2-1 victors over Prescot Cables. The Seasiders raced into an early two-goal lead before half-time, meaning Jack Goodwin’s strike a minute from time proved a mere consolation for Cables on their travels.

Elsewhere, Jack Redshaw was on target for the 11th time this season for Hyde United, but it wasn't enough to earn his side all three points at neighbours Ashton United. Redshaw pegged back Louis White’s opener as the Tigers shared the points at the Project Solar Stadium. Both sides remain just outside the play-offs, occupying sixth and seventh respectively after their score draw.

Finally, Morpeth Town climbed to ninth after a stoppage-time strike from Josh King earned them a 2-1 win at Bamber Bridge. The Highwaymen have now won three straight matches on the road and move to within four points of Ilkeston, who currently occupy the final play-off spot.
