Re: From The Archives

It does feel like 95-years ago! Thanks Whiteball for being who you are... just re-located your programme (I think).

Next challenge (after going into the loft - twice in a month) who want's my Ilson programmes from that era...? I generally bought/buy when I go to a game... and I was there from Manor Ground to New Manor Ground. Not convinced by the name choice at the time but, as the museum curator, I put my hands up and did suggest it to the then landord of the Rutland Cottage PH - who was matey with Mr Millership. I just felt Ilson should not lose the connection to a ground I loved... with the remains of the veledrome, and also behind the Ilkeston 'spa' hotel... and let's not forget the white-ball too!

Let's be fair - what would be the greast 'second' team to follow since the 1990s...? Apart from the interim financials, Ilson remains a team worthy of any incomers' support. Weirdly, and whilst in the loft, I also found Ilson-v-my proper Cheltenham Town 'Robins' (Nov 1995).

How things can change...

On the back of this. Matchman please keep doing you match reports - because I do not do Twitter and it's always fair minded. Whiteball (so loyal and committed, for decades) - and these thanks also very much apply to the rest of you reading this. Special praise for Alex and his £1 bet game - but to re-explain my poor position, I will never opt for an Ilson defeat. Who could/would want that...?

I've now given up to post a programme cover image (or two); it's seemingly beyond me.... So no proof....! BUT  whilst in the loft, I found a copy of the late Ric Scollins(?) Ilson 'bus-stop' game - I 'd have to sacn and post in two A4 parts to share - so if there is a way do anything with an image do please advise...

Merry Christmas to all. From Plymouth

Re: From The Archives

To get pics on WhiteBall I find I have to put them on line somewhere first ie Twitter, BlueSky (if you dislike Musk) or Facebook and then copy and paste onto WhiteBall! This is probably no help at all but I’ve tried for years to put them straight but it’s never worked. I tried to contact Boardhost but I found out why it is a free forum! We do have a WhiteBallProject Facebook page which at the moment just has stats and the odd pic on it. From the Archives and the Stats go in the online programme which if we are really honest is only produced to avoid a fine from the league.  When I emigrated to Alnwick two years ago I looked onto doing a website for them but when I did the research there was only one Newcastle Blue Star who had a website that was ever updated. I come to the conclusion that club websites are on the way out and X or Facebook unfortunately look to be the future. The WhiteBallProject is coming up for its 25th anniversary and do I have plans for something different!

Re: From The Archives

Thank you WhiteBall. As I do not do any of those above... you;ll have to take my word! I also read recently that Matchman is thinking of stopping his 'Whiteball' feedback. Another of this small posting group (but I hope you do get more views than just us) said please stay - and that would have to be a plus one from me at this end... That said... and as Matchman goes to just about every game, it's maybe about time he can just enjoy the game without the obligations...

Clearly, I am a bit of a Luddite and I've no idea what your plans are - but I'll be sticking to the forum as long as it's around. And, as for the two of you - and, for too many seasons now, all the sensible posters still here, will miss that long range immediacy - even if only about the historic knowing, patient and understanding sector... Good times and bad/sad times. That's the game we love.

Do have a good one all.
