Today's football - Basford v Worksop

How astute of Chris Munroe to move Basford's match from Boxing Day to today.
Basford v Worksop is the top English game of the day.  Hope they get a good crowd.

The Southern League and Isthmian League are the only other English leagues with fixtures today .

A Basford win would lift them out of the drop zone and would be a great result for Ilkeston.

Score updates from 3pm

.
Worksop's Match Preview

It’s our final game of the year as we make the short trip to Greenwich Avenue as we take on Nottinghamshire rivals Basford United.

The hosts haven’t won in the league since the 12th November against Stockton but have won twice in the FA Trophy which means they are one of three teams in the NPL Premier still in the competition. They welcome National League side Eastleigh at the start of the year in the fourth round.

The Tigers are currently three unbeaten after three consecutive home games with one win and two draws.

Basford will be looking to end their winless streak in the league whilst Worksop will want to bring their unbeaten run into 2025.

LAST SEASON
The Ambers finished one place outside the relegation zone but were a comfortable seven points away from Bradford Park Avenue who got relegated.

IN THE DUGOUT
It was announced on Boxing Day that Martin Carruthers has stepped down from his position as Manager of Basford, nine months into his second spell, for personal reasons. Former Head Coach Luke Potter has replaced him, and along with backup goalkeeper Saul Deeney, will take control of the Ambers for their game against the Tigers.

ONE TO WATCH
Jordan Hallam came through the youth academy at Sheffield United but since then has played for Scunthorpe United and Ilkeston Town before joining Basford in October 2023 . The 26-year-old has scored 13 goals this season for the Ambers including a hat-trick against Sporting Khalsa in the FA Cup.

LAST TIME WE MET
It was a goal fest in the last game between the two sides, as the Tigers advanced to the third qualifying round of the FA Cup with a 6-3 victory against the Ambers. Vaughan Redford bagged a hat-trick, with Luke Hall, Liam Hughes and Luke Shiels getting the other three.

Re: Today's football - Basford v Worksop

Alnwick Town won 4-2 so that’s two wins on the trot and ten goals scored. Their previous ten goals took thirteen matches to score in a run stretching back to early September. You can feel the confidence returning to the players. Now up to sixteenth place! H’way the Wick!
