Ilkeston’s unbeaten home record was brought to an end by a lowly but superior Leek Town who deserved their victory. Both teams were desperate to win this match for different reasons; Ilkeston to enhance their playoff ambitions and Leek to pull away from the relegation zone. Ilkeston may claim that they had more possession but it was Leek who created the better chances. 
Right from the start Leek showed how dangerous they could be on the counter with right back Liam Buckley proving to be a handful. Leek’s first big chance fell to Hayden Campbell who was found by Louis Potts but Matt Yates did superbly to palm his effort over the bar. Ilkeston replied with a Jamie Walker shot that was narrowly wide but two minutes later Leek were ahead with a speedy and devastating counter attack ending with Campbell blasting home Potts’s cross. A couple of minutes later it was very nearly 2-0 when Campbell’s header hit the crossbar. Ilkeston were seeing plenty of the ball but Leek’s defence wasn’t allowing them to create any real chances. Leek doubled their lead just before half time with another goal on the counter very similar to their first, this time finished in style by Potts from Julius Ndene’s cross. 
Ilkeston made a strong start to the second half with L’Varn Brandy taking on defenders. Sam Parker just failed to connect with Brandy’s excellent cross then Ollie Shelton fired wide for Leek at the other end. Just before the hour mark Ilkeston made a triple change. There was a chance on 62 minutes when Colin Daniel’s effort from a free kick just outside the area was deflected narrowly wide off the defensive wall. Ilkeston then had the ball in the net but a free kick was given for a nudge on keeper Dino Visser. Tom Cursons was then knocked over in the Leek area but nothing given. As Ilkeston pressed hard, Daniel saw another powerful effort diverted wide. Leek were then lucky to survive a goal mouth scramble as Ilkeston kept plugging away without reward but Leek were worthy winners.



 

Leek are obviously recovering well after their poor start to the season. They beat Macclesfield and only one other team has done that. Will win one lose one draw one form secure us a play off place?
