Harker still wasting time.  Can't blame him.    Ilkeston corner - last chance surely.

Full time.   1-2     really poor show tonight

Re: Tue 18 Feb '25 : Ilkeston v Stockton : NMG : ko 7 45pm

What a disappointment . Stockton were better than us in every position. We were totally outplayed and without Tom Cursons we have no goal threat. We seem to go from optimism to disappointment after every game. No consistency.  One win in our last five matches. That sort of points return  is not going to get us into the playoffs. Fortunately for us Ashton and Hebburn dropped points but Rylands’ win put them only 3 points behind us.

In my opiinion Stockton looked the best side we've played against. (or were we just poor on the night?)
Defensively they were really strong and goalkeeper Harker was superb.

I think we missed Brandy who takes on defenders. Presumably he's injured.

Why did Tom Marshall get substituted?.

Steve Chettle came to see the two loanee Mansfield players.  I don't think he'll be giving them glowing reports.

.
Tue 18th February 2025
Northern Premier League
Ilkeston Town  1  Stockton Town 2
Ilkeston’s playoff hopes took a knock when beaten by close rivals Stockton Town. Two early goals did the damage from which they couldn’t recover. Stockton deserved their half time lead and although the Robins had a go in the second half the visitors were worthy winners.

Michael Sweet had the ball in the Ilkeston net after only 2 minutes but it was disallowed for offside. Despite Ilkeston having more possession in the early stages Stockton’s counter attacks looked far more dangerous than Ilkeston’s pedestrian build up play which failed the produce scoring opportunities. Matt Yates saved an effort from the lively Kevin Hayes but two minutes later Hayes gave Stockton the lead from a penalty after he was nudged off the ball in the area by Jamie Walker. It was nearly 2-0 but for a goal line clearance but Stockton scored from the resultant corner headed in by Ajun Purewal on 21 minutes. A Jordan Stevens corner for Ilkeston fell to McKeal Abullah but his effort was blocked by defender Lewis King. Stevens on a good forward burst saw his shot saved by Nathan Harker as Ilkeston tried to pull one back before half time. It wasn’t to be though and Stockton’s two goal lead was a fair reflection.

Ilkeston started the second half with more determination and Harker was called upon to produce two brilliant saves in quick succession. After Abdullah’s shot was parried, the ball fell to Colin Daniel who followed up with thunderbolt but that was also pushed away by Harker. At the other end Kornell McDonald made a crucial sliding intervention to stop a Stockton attack. Ilkeston’s best chances were from corners and free kicks into the box although dominant keeper Harker was claiming most of them. But on 67 minutes a free kick by Declan Eratt-Thompson into the crowded area paid off with Sam Parker getting the ball over the line. Ilkeston tried to find a leveller, especially near the end, but goalkeeper Harker and Stockton’s defenders were resolute and never looked like conceding another goal.

Well we were totally outplayed in the first half being given a football lesson in all positions . Their number 11 was their best player by far totally running the game . We were lucky to go in at half time two nil it could have been three nil. Much better second half especially with the subs coming on .

.
The Stockton officials were so pleased to get one over on Ian Deakin. They were still sore about when Deakin's Long Eaton side beat them in the playoffs in the 2022-23 season.

STOCKTON'S MATCH REPORT

Ilkeston Town v Stockton Town FC

Stockton Town returned to the Play-Off places after a huge victory at Ilkeston Town. A penalty from Kev Hayes and a goal from Arjun Purewal put the Anchors in charge at the break.Sam Parker pulled a goal back for Ilkeston to make it a nervy finish.Josh Baggs and Kev Hayes returned to the Starting XI, while new loan signing Fenton John was handed his debut.Inside three minutes, Stockton had the ball in the net when Josh Scott’s effort was saved by Matt Yates and the rebound was converted by Michael Sweet. Unfortunately the linesman’s flag was raised.Hayes then had a low which was kept out by Yates.Hayes continued to get forward and look to cause issues. That paid off when he was awarded a penalty after he was felled in the box.Hayes took on the responsibility and sent Yates the opposite to give Stockton the lead.Stockton almost increased their lead when an exquisite take down by Scott put him though on goal but he saw his effort cleared off the line by Parker. From the resulting corner, John put it straight on the head of Purewal who steered home the second Anchors goal.Ilkeston almost pulled a goal back before the half hour mark but Harker was sharp to keep out Jordan Stevens prod towards goal.
Half-Time: Ilkeston Town 0-2 Stockton Town
Ilkeston came out looking to get back into the game but were met by a defiant Stockton.King and Baggs combined to make a crucial challenge inside the box, and Harker reacted quickly to deny substitute Alex Hardwick.lkeston did pull a goal back when Parker found the net following a freekick delivery from Declan Erratt-Thompson.Stockton defence held resilient for the remainder of the game. A long range effort blazed wide by Jonathan Wafula was closest Ilkeston came to a leveller.
Full-Time: Ilkeston Town 1-2 Stockton Town
