Rooney belter is just wide.
GOAL now it's 0-4 . What a disappointing ending to what was a decent display for 80 minutes.

Macclesfield showed what an exceptional side they are as they eventually wore down Ilkeston's resistance but it took the introduction of Macclesfield's big name forwards to make the breakthrough.
Macclesfield's big hitters with fresh legs were just too strong for Ilkeston's tiring defenders who had given their all and once Rooney had thundered in the opener 12 minutes from time, the floodgates opened. It was disappointing to concede four goals so late in the game but Macclesfield were relentless and showed why they have only lost three matches all season.
As Ashton lost again we remain 4 points behind them but after our goal difference took a battering we now need to win our last two games and Ashton to lose their last two for us to finish above them.

Northern Premier League
Macclesfield 4 Ilkeston Town 0
Already crowned champions Macclesfield produced a devastating four goal finish to crush Ilkeston’s resistance. The breakthrough goal took 78 minutes but it was quickly followed by three more. Until then Ilkeston had done well to keep the score goalless but all of the Macclesfield goals were of quality and none better than the opener by John Rooney, a bullet of a shot from the edge of the area. D’Mani Mellor added a second 4 minutes later then the leagues leading scorer Danny Elliott added two further goals in added time.
Ilkeston started well with Jamie Walker having an early shot blocked then had a penalty appeal waved away. Macclesfield winger Sean Etaluku was proving to be their main threat as the hosts started to attack more often but Ilkeston were defending well. At the other end Macclesfield keeper Max Dearnley was generally untroubled. The first big chance in the game took 24 minutes when Lewis Fensome’s inviting cross was met perfectly by Rollin Menayese causing Matt Yates to produce a fine save. Paul Dawson’s free kick then brought another save from Yates. By the 30 minute mark Macclesfield were well in the ascendency but Yates and his defenders were holding out. There was scare when Sam Parker’s clearance deflected goalwards off Etaluku but Yates managed to stop the ball crossing the line. Just before half time Walker tried to catch Dearnley off guard but was off target.
After the restart Savage sent on his big hitting forwards, first Mellor followed later by Kengni, Duffy, and Rooney and Macclesfield became much stronger opponents. First to show intent was Rooney with a powerful blast that flew just wide. Kengni was next cutting inside then seeing his shot brilliantly saved by Yates. Duffy then saw his effort curl wide. A goal had to come from the relentless second half pressure and it was a beauty from Rooney finding the very corner of the net. Four minutes later D’Mani Mellor doubled the lead with a point blank header from Duffy’s cross. Elliott added two more in added time as Macclesfield ended the match in ruthless fashion.
