    Easter Bank Holiday Mon 21 Apr 25 : Ilkeston v Matlock : NMG ko 3pm

    This could be a crucial match for both sides, for Ilkeston if we're still in with a playoff chance and definitely a crucial match for Matlock who face relegation.

    These are desperate days for Matlock and they're expected to bring a large following. 
    Defeat for Matlock could see them relegated.
    It's likely to be our biggest attendance and it's our last home game of the season.

    Player of the season awards afterwards followed by Questions and Answers with Ian Deakin in the clubhouse.

    It's going to be a long and unmissable afternoon's entertainment.

    If we were to lose to Matlock, then the Awards Night that follows would be a real damp squib. 

    On the other hand if we're still in with a chance of making the playoffs ....................

    Also at the Bank Holiday Matlock match, I've been told that next season's new home and away shirts and other merchandise will be available to purchase from the club shop.

    Whitby's 3-2 Good Friday win at Broadhurst Park doesn't help Matlock's cause.

    I've heard from various sources that Matlock are facing a 3 points deduction for playing an ineligible player but there's been no announcement by the league. Macclesfield seemed to know about it.  If it's true, It looks like the league may be delaying the announcement because they didn't want it to affect Matlock’s survival chances in the final matches or the points deduction be the cause of their relegation.

    After the defeat to Worksop, Matlock are 5 points from safety with 2 games left.

    If they were to receive a 3 point deduction now, they would be definitely be relegated. 

    I'm thinking the league will wait until Matlock are relegated without the points deduction before they actually issue the points deduction. 

    If there isn't a points deduction then Matlock (43 points) could catch Hebburn (48 points), Whitby, Workington and Bamber Bridge (all on 49 points). Unlikely but possible.

    Ilkeston must now win against Matlock and Ashton lose against Mickleover to take the playoff decider to the last games of the season.
    There will be some tired legs in the Bank Holiday Monday games after Saturday and Matlock will be desperate not to lose at Ilkeston.

    20 April 2025

    Matlock Town FC can today confirm that our club has been notified of a pending points deduction due to an administrative error made by our club secretary at the Hyde United fixture.The imminent punishment, namely the deduction of the three points gained from the fixture, will, unfortunately, seal our inevitable fate with relegation to the NPL Division One confirmed.
    Everyone at the club is extremely upset at how this season has ended, none more so than our club secretary responsible for the error who has taken full responsibility and who has issued his unreserved apologies.
    The penalty will be received due to playing an ineligible player, namely Joshua Smith, whose youth loan from Accrington Stanley had ended. This was not picked up by us nor his parent club until after the fixture due to him missing several weeks previously through injury.
    Please be mindful at this difficult time that our staff are predominantly volunteers who dedicate large parts of their lives to the club. This is a human error and we are all saddened by our season’s outcome.
    All club members will today receive an email with the options for moving the club forward next season. These options are a continuation of fan-led ownership or the changeover to the private ownership model providing investment.
    We ask all members to read the e-mail carefully, make their decision and return their vote as a matter of urgency.

    It's MATCH DAY No 41 : the penultimate game of the season against local rivals, Matlock Town

    This is our last home match of the season followed by "Player of the Season" Awards in the clubhouse which includes:
    Supporters' player of the year
    Manager's player of the year
    Players' player of the year
    Plus other awards

    A bigger than normal attendance is expected with Matlock bringing plenty of support so get down to the ground early, enjoy the match day experience and stay for the Awards presentation in the clubhouse.

    It looks like the steady rainfall has affected today's attendance with everyone already here packing into the covered areas.

    we can anticipate a fast action game due to the wet surface.  Local pride at stake.

    Great play by Essien who finds Brandy but Brandy mis-controls. Good defending by Parker.
