Official Club Statement Website Admin. 6 Jun
Leicester Road Football Club Limited
The current economic climate has created many additional challenges on top of the traditional headaches that come with running a successful semi-professional football club. We have tried to absorb these challenges rather than pass them on to our loyal supporters but day to day operating costs have spiralled out of control and revenues have dropped significantly. We have a core of very hard-working staff but both retirements and several recruitment failures in key positions has left us in a position where we simply cannot continue to operate at this level of intensity. The senior first team ended the season as the form team in Northern Premier League Midland Division, finishing in a very credible 10th place due largely to the coaching style of Neil Lyne and the players commitment to his methods whilst our operational staff continued to deliver the professional service that made us the club we are.
Putting emotions to one side, commercially the drop in revenues and the loss of key sponsors combined with the increase in operating costs determined it was no longer viable to continue operating the senior first team on this basis and whilst this became abundantly clear by Christmas, the masses agreed that we would finish the season on a best endeavours basis even though the traits of Judas did impose themselves on several within the group as they attempted to belittle our situation! In an attempt to try and avoid the inevitable, a series of fundraising events were put on and promoted to improve the cashflow position but the response and support was very disappointing and set the tone for the immediate future and ultimately this decision. The decision was made to be proactive rather than reactive. So, we started the process of requesting Voluntary Demotion from the Northern Premier League which in turn made other pressing decisions much easier. Today we have pressed the button and put Leicester Road Football Club Limited into Voluntary Liquidation. This decision does not affect the Senior Development, Youth, Junior or Mini teams who will continue to operate, play and be based at Leicester Road Stadium without exception. A new entity will be formed to apply to re-join the National League System as a phoenix to the former and it is hoped that senior first team football will be re-established for this coming season under new leadership.

I can still remember well the defeat at Hinckley. We outplayed them in the first half and led 2-0 but Steve Hart turned it round for Hinckley in the second half scoring all four goals to give them a famous win.
We tried to sign Steve Hart when he played for Quorn but were unsuccessful

It’s sad to see the town the size of Hinckley without a team at the higher levels of non league football. The ground is big enough for Step One Football so it would be a waste if the town do not group together to form yet another team. Looking briefly at the history and demise it appears to show that when people running football clubs fall out nobody wins.

wasnt it Leicester Road who had an arguement with the ex owner to which he still owned the main stand ( if my memory serves me right ) plus there were issues at the end of the ground as in access ?

Yup that sounds like Hinckley!

Hinckley Leicester Road resignation - Rugby Town reprieved at Step 4
Following the resignation of Hinckley LR FC from the NPL Midlands division on Friday 6th June, the FA’s Operations Committee (Steps 1-4) has unanimously decided that Rugby Town FC be reprieved and will take Hinckley LRFC’s place in the NPL Midlands division for season 2025/26.
The basis for this decision is FA rule 5.5.2(c), which was introduced in the wake of Shaw Lane FC’s resignation from the NLS, which states that:- Where a vacancy occurs at Step 3 and 4 after the allocations for the following season have been published and prior to the holding of the League’s AGM, the vacancy created shall be dealt with at the sole discretion of the Committee in order to minimise disruption.
The committee determined that the intra-divisional reprieve of Rugby Town FC would cause minimal disruption compared to a strict points per game approach. Rugby Town FC will therefore be included in the constitution of the Northern Premier League for season 2025/26, which will be confirmed at the NPL’s AGM on Saturday 14th June 2025.

Rugby Town have welcomed their return to the Northern Premier League, after being handed a reprieve following the withdrawal of Hinckley LR
It was announced on Friday that Hinckley LR had entered voluntary liquidation, therefore withdrawing from their place in the NPL Midlands Division for the new season. As the highest-placed relegated side from the division last season, Rugby Town were handed a reprieve by the FA’s operations committee. Club Director Neil Melvin commented: "We're delighted to have been given the chance to remain at this level and thank the NPL and the FA Committee for their swift and pragmatic approach. "The situation has developed quickly since Friday but we’re confident we have the people in place to adapt and build a competitive squad for the NPL Midlands. "It's a surprise and a welcome lift after the disappointment of last season and we now move forward with real focus and ambition."
A club statement added: “We recognise that Hinckley Leicester Road’s withdrawal has brought a difficult and sudden end to the club in its current form and we extend our thoughts to the players, volunteers, supporters, suppliers and others affected by the club's demise.
“With the season now expected to start a week later than planned, our pre-season schedule will now change with the need for two different opponents for the friendlies - further announcements will follow in due course.”
The teams in the NPL Midlands Division in 2025/26 are: AFC Rushden & Diamonds, Anstey Nomads, Basford United, Bedworth United, Belper Town, Boldmere St Michaels, Bourne Town, Carlton Town, Coleshill Town, Corby Town, Coventry Sphinx, Lichfield City, Long Eaton United, Loughborough Students, Racing Club Warwick, Rugby Borough, Rugby Town Shepshed Dynamo, St Neots Town, Sutton Coldfield Town, Wellingborough Town
