Gone east, so no local derbies then. I wonder if the “new” signings would have committed if they had known before hand, expected to be in the Midland division I assume.

Yes it's tough on Matlock compared with Basford and Mickleover who are in the Midland Division which entails much less travel.

Basford is approximately 10 miles east of Matlock. As has been said In this thread, in the upcoming season Basford are in the NPL Midlands and Matlock are in the NPL East. And in the upcoming season 15 of Basford's 21 away games are less than an hour from Basford. The longest journey is to St Neots Town in Cambridgeshire, 98 miles and 1h 54 mins away. Matlock must have a lot more travelling (Blyth x 2, Ashington, Redcar, Consett, Dunston for starters).

Matlock Town continue impressive rebuild with statement goalkeeper signing
Matlock Town have announced the signing of Myles Boney from National League North side South Shields. Boney, 27, joins the Gladiators after spending five years at the 1st Cloud Arena, where he made 227 appearances and kept 80 clean sheets across the Mariners' stay in the Northern Premier League and their subsequent seasons at Step 2. The Blackpool native, who rose through the ranks at his hometown club, has also featured on loan for the likes of Nantwich Town, Solihull Moors and Darlington. Despite their relegation from the NPL Premier Division at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, Matlock Town's preparations to bounce straight back continue to take shape. Boney joins an eye-catching list of summer recruits, which includes the re-signing of prolific goalscorer Montel Gibson, Buxton trio Diego De Girolamo, Tom Elliott & Ben Sault, Alfreton Town defender Dwayne Wiley and centre-back Harlain Mbayo. On the signing of Boney, Gladiators' boss Adam Clayton said: "Getting a goalie in has been a priority since being given the job permanently. "Together with the club, we have put an enormous amount of work into getting the right player and also the right person. "To have any form of success for any team, you need a top goalkeeper that the team trusts. In Myles, I believe we have got just that. “He will bring a presence & stability to our team with some brilliant attributes to help us achieve our ambitions.”

Sometimes it makes you think about transfers, admitted you never know the whole situation but moving from South Shields to Matlock, some move that. Where does he live, work etc.

With Matlock being in the NPL East Division players based in the North East become more of an approachable target. Plus money talks!
