Ilkeston's missing seasons in footballwebpages

.
Footballwebpages
has a great archive of Ilkeston’s records from season 2012-13 onwards but 2017-18 and 2018-19 are missing. Those are the two seasons when Ilkeston played below Step 4 in the Midland Football League.

Following the demise of Ilkeston FC at the end of the 2016-17 season, Ilkeston Town FC was reborn and played in the 2017-18 season under to Alan Hardy’s ownership with Steve Chettle as manager. Everyone remembers the first match, a 1-1 draw at Uttoxeter with Chris Shaw scoring a last minute equaliser.

I’m pretty sure no one remembers the second match, our first home match that season which ended in a 0-2 defeat to Heath Hayes. So, not the best start but we won our next match at home to Coventry Copsewood by 2-0 with two Alex Marshall goals.

I've not been able to find a record of Ilkeston's results for 2016-17 and 2017-18 anywhere, so I’m going to try to compile the missing results from my own records.

Re: Ilkeston's missing seasons in footballwebpages

Sadly I have all the line ups etc on a spreadsheet somewhere! The Midland Football League did not at the time ask clubs to support FootballWebPages. Personally I think it’s the greatest web site online at the moment second only maybe to the British Newspaper Archive. I can post them on here or send them to you as a spreadsheet or let you spend hours looking for them on line. The last option is the one I would go for as I am very sad. As an example I am still making a list of every football club in Northumberland ever!

Re: Ilkeston's missing seasons in footballwebpages

Omg I can remember that season well. Athertone was an old crap ground but the town centre was good as there was a beer festival going on.
And Pershore away was the coldest I have ever been ...
Most clubs couldn't believe how many away fans we brought ...

Re: Ilkeston's missing seasons in footballwebpages

Loads of happy memories and sad ones as well from that season.

Kev can you remember when we played brocton at home? You was ripping into their no8.

We had gone to the ponderosa for a beer after the match and their team walked in. Never seen anyone 💩 themselves that much 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Re: Ilkeston's missing seasons in footballwebpages

I can remember the on/off game at Coventry Alvis. They called it off due to the weather but the FA got a ref in to inspect the pitch and he declared it playable. However in the meantime Alan Hardy had told Anthony Redwood that he could have the Saturday off to see his young family in Cardiff. Anthony had just got to Wales only to get a message that the game and he had to drive back to Coventry. When we arrived their manager was introducing the players to each other as they had just signed seven or eight new players. It became clear that they called the game off because they had an exodus. Anyway we won 4-0 but it could have been ten and Anthony has to then drive back to his family in Cardiff! Happy days?

Graham Street Prims A Att 308 2-0 Whitehurst, Reeves FAV Vase Q1
Boldmere St Michaels H Att 478 2-0 Walker, Reeves
Rocester H Att 290 6-0 Marshall A 2, Reeves 3, Whitehirst
Dunkirk A Att 301 7-0 Orlando-Young, Hopkinson 2, Walker, Marshall A, White

Bizarrely Elliott Reeves who was by far our leading scorer failed to score in out last two games of the season where we scored fifteen goals to win promotion. Lavell White led to my resignation as the twitter updater when the predictive text changed his second name to being spelt with an S. Steve Chettle thought it was so funny he actually then made the same mistake on the official team sheet. I did apologise to Lavell but some pundits, harshly in my opinion, thought it had accurately described his previous performance. When I made mistakes and there were many I always told people it was Anthony Redwood who does the twitter!

Re: Ilkeston's missing seasons in footballwebpages

Well done Whiteball -  what are they (hopefully not AI) looking at...? On Whiteball we know the satistical truth...

Do please keep it up... that's aimed at the two of you... This is the truelly unique football site. It's still here. Many congratulations. - and what a name... from the 'Old' Manor Ground' / Cycling Velodrome to the New Manor Ground. I'm a retired historian - but the landord of the Rutland Cottage was mates with Mr Millership... and I'd still like to think I contributed to the slight historical in-accurcay in the choice of of new ground's name. (Still regretting though the demise of the Rutalnd Hotel and, maybe, a unique Ilson Spa plunge pool in the cellars..? I saw it...!)

Lets have a great season...  I've not seen Ilson for years.... but used to watch home and away - with the sadly late Danny Corns. I think I owe my (surviving) Cotmnahay neighbours a visit too... Watch this space....  Hopefully this season...

There should be a 'prize', for you guys. Please do not give up this website.. You have readers/followers who rely on this website. For me, it's hard to contribute anything sensible (please do  not check my my backposts.... I live miles away and like a pint or two...)

My teams. Cheltenham;, maybe Derby (for my son, and, for now, one grand son); Ilkeston next... and then maybe Southampton (for the ex and her eldest). Plymouth... not for me, but senisble reactions needed!.

Just in case people want to post - when I was of primaryage / an early teenager - you had to have a top team  in your 'locker'... My late brother (in the 1960s) was Burnley. I was Chelsea (-v- Leeds 1970). Please forgive me (us)

Re: Ilkeston's missing seasons in footballwebpages

Not mine... just realised again I cannot post an image, so shared this. Best add, my rosette is better, and with just one crease in the 'tail'. Better still, my postage would be much cheaper...!

Come on guys, before we became sensible adults, what teams did we (nominally) support? Who can resist...? New thread needed...

As well as winning the League,  we also got through 4 rounds of the FA Vase before losing to Eastwood and reached the semi-final of the League cup. - a memorable season.

And what a finish to clinch the one promotion spot. With three matches left and a three point lead, Ilkeston had the chance to secure the title when they met rivals Walsall Wood at the NMG. But it didn't go to plan and Walsall Wood played the game of their lives and won by 4-0. The margin of victory not ony put them level on points, it gave them a superior goal difference. I can remember their celebrations in the clubhouse. They thought their incredible performance had won them the league.
So wth both teams level on points Ilkeston had to win by bigger margins than Walsall Wood in their last two matches. Ilkeston's 7-0 win at Dunkirk while Walsall Wood could only beat Sporting Khalsa by 1-0. swung the advantage back to Ilkeston.
Going into the final matches Ilkeston now had a 3 goal better goal difference but Walsall Wood's final game was against bottom of the league Wolverhampton Sporting and we had a tougher game at Loughborough University. Our 8-1 victory ensured promotion.

Does anyone have a copy of the 2018-19 final league table?

Yes! The WhiteBallProject is I think 25 years old next year. It has seen a lot of changes from a website with a forum attached to a forum/message board with a Facebook page attached and hopefully growing next year!
I must also add that without Matchman it would not have made 20 years as I had become tired of struggling to keep it going so a big shout out for MATCHMAN!

Re: Ilkeston's missing seasons in footballwebpages

.
Compiling the results of the two seasons in the Midland Football League brings back many memories.

After Ilkeston FC went into administration and were demoted at the end of the 2016-17 season it looked like there wouldn't be a 2017-18 season. But after Alan Hardy purchased the club and changed the name back to Ilkeston Town FC, we were very lucky that the Midland Football League accepted us at very short notice. It probably helped that prior to us joining, they had an odd number of teams in their Division One.

I became more seriously involved with the club when I retired from working in 2012 after being invited by Chief Exec, Nigel Harrop when Dave Mantle was the owner. Harrop later bought the club off Mantle for a pound. In the 2014-15 season Ilkeston made the NPL Premier Division playoffs but It was also under Nigel’s ownership that Ilkeston FC went into Administration at the end of the 2016-17 season so Harrop ended up a very unpopular figure and myself by association. But I will always bring grateful to him for giving me the opportunity to be involved in what has now become my obsession.

Towards the end of the 2015-16 season I met John Shiels, owner of the WhiteBallProject forum at a game at the NMG. John was about to revamp WhiteBall and when it was ready in it’s current form he allowed me to contribute.

I found this article on the internet by Duncan Payne which gives a brief history of the club up until when Ilkeston FC was formed under Dave Mantle and his SR Education.

Re: Ilkeston's missing seasons in footballwebpages

 .
My involvement started when, as a supporter, I decided that I would sponsor a player and that player was James Reid. What a player!  One of Ilkeston’s finest. He was so gifted on the ball. He scored the goal in our final league match of the 2014-15 season at Nantwich that took us into the playoffs. We beat Workington away in the playoff semi-final but lost to Curzon Ashton in the final. We came so close to equalising in the second half but couldn’t quite find the net. I remember a Micheal Williams shot clipping the post in the closing stages after a Curson Ashton player had been sent off as they defended desperately. James Reid also scored the two goals that won us the Derbyshire Senior Cup against Matlock after coming on as a sub.
We had plenty of other outstanding players around that time. Besides James Reid there were: Gary Ricketts, Matt Richards, Joe Maguire, Rob Morgan, Ash Hunter, Michael Williams, and of course Che Adams.

you mention Rob Morgan there , the Workington fans i got pally with at our last home where we were battered by Workington couldnt believe the difference at the semi final. They asked me who the hell is your number seven , Rob Morgan i said , they all said what a good player he made the difference ...

There's one thing I can always rely on.
That is Alex picking up on my mistakes. The player was indeed David Morgan.

Sack that Matchman for incompetence.
