Ilkeston Town continue impressive recruitment drive

Ilkeston Town have continued their summer recruitment with the arrival of midfielder AJ Greaves and central defender Tyler Whyle. Greaves, 24, came through the ranks at Doncaster Rovers and arrives at the Robins having most recently played for Sheffield in the NPL East Division, where he featured 37 times last season. In addition to his Football League experience, the midfielder has also featured for York City in the National League and Spennymoor Town in the National League North, with further stints at Redditch United, Shirebrook Town and Marske United. Also heading to the New Manor Ground is teenager Whyle, who began his career at Mansfield Town. He signed a professional contract with the Stags in the summer of 2024 after impressing as a scholar, before going on to feature heavily for their Under 21s last term as they were crowned Central League Cup champions.
It has already been a busy summer for Ian Deakin's side, who have welcomed three new faces to their squad. Former Basford United captain Matt Thornhill was unveiled as their first off-season addition last month, with forward Robbie Fox and goalkeeper Dylan Wharton announced soon after. Having finished three points outside the play-offs last season, the Robins have opted to keep faith with a large portion of their existing squad. New deals have been given to 13 members of their squad - the most recent of which saw Colin Daniel agree terms for the 2025/26 season after a standout first season with the club.
