FORMER Premier League midfielder Robbie Savage is on the verge of becoming the new manager of Forest Green Rovers.Savage took over as head coach of Macclesfield last June, four years after becoming a board member of the re-launched club.

Robbie Savage is understood to be in line to become the next Forest Green manager. Under his guidance, the Silkmen won the Northern Premier League Premier Division and secured promotion to the National League North. He subsequently penned a new two-year contract just last month. However, the 50-year-old is already set to move on. According to Sky Sports, Savage has agreed to become the new Forest Green manager. The Welshman was at the club on Monday to finalise a deal, with the official announcement expected on Tuesday. He replaces Steve Cotterill, who was dismissed on Thursday after failing to earn promotion from the National League. In preparation for his move, Savage has allegedly resigned from his role as Macclesfield's director of football. However, he remains a part-owner of the club. After he extended his managerial contract at Macclesfield last month, Savage explained: "It's a club that's close to my heart."What myself and Rob and the volunteers, the staff have all achieved: three promotions in four years, an FA trophy semi-final, record-breaking season last year.

You know interest from other clubs, as Rob has alluded to, I just wanted to show everybody my commitment to this football club."It's my future. For the next couple of years, it's going to be here. It's a project. It's a journey. I can't leave that dressing room. "The lads have been spectacular, been amazing. Togetherness has been incredible. So I'm on that journey with them."

John Rooney, the younger brother of Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney, is allegedly expected to take over as Macclesfield boss. Rooney has spent the last two years as a player for the club.

Macclesfield FC can confirm that Robbie Savage has accepted the role of First Team Manager at Enterprise National League side, Forest Green Rovers.
Whereas we cannot hide the fact that this is disappointing, Robbie leaves with our very best wishes and eternal gratitude for everything that he has done for our Football Club over the course of the last five years. On and off the pitch, Robbie has led by example – with his passion, desire and work rate not only unparalleled, but infectious in its nature. Robbie has inspired us all to make Macclesfield FC the best it can be, and his role in creating the vibrant and inclusive Club that we see before us can never be exaggerated. Firstly, as Director of Football and then as Head Coach, Robbie’s meticulous and unwavering work ethic helped ensure that Macclesfield once again had a Football Club everyone could be proud of. Masterminding a truly historic campaign last season, Robbie’s side broke almost every record going as The Silkmen tore up the history books almost at a canter. And yet, all the trophies and accolades somewhat pale into insignificance when it comes to how Robbie engaged with all those who hold this Club so dear. Robbie helped make people believe what is possible and how the “impossible” can be achieved by a ruthless and relentless mindset. This is the overriding legacy that Robbie leaves us with, both collectively and individually. As we embark on a new era, this cannot and will not be lost, as we set our sights on taking our wonderful Football Club forward once more.

Macclesfield Football Club can confirm that Laurent Mendy, Neil Kengni, and Tre Pemberton have all completed permanent transfers to Enterprise National League side Forest Green Rovers, for significant undisclosed fees.
All three players have made a combined total of over 450 appearances for the Silkmen and have played a massive part in where the Club is today. We would like to thank Laurent, Neil, and Tre for all their hard work, and we wish them the best in the next step of their footballing journey.

Macclesfield FC are delighted to confirm John Rooney as our new First Team Manager
.
John will be supported by Nigel Keogh, Peter Band and Anthony Curran as we prepare for our debut season in the Enterprise National League North. Following our record-breaking season.
