I'ts the big game on Saturday and whilst IIkeston have won their last eleven matches Walsall Wood have hit a sticky patch. They have lost three of their last four matches. Last night they lost 0-1 at home to Wolverhampton Sporting in the Staffordshire Senior Cup. Last Saturday they lost 1-3 to Stourport Swifts in the FA Vase. The week before that they lost 2-3 to Atherstone in the league. Could this be a good time for us to be playing them? Or have they been resting their best players in the cup competitions in readiness for the vital game against Ilkeston ? In fairness Wolverhampton Sporting are currently second in the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division and Stourport Swifts are in the Premier Division of our League so they have been tough games for Walsall Wood. However three recent defeats has to affect their confidence. It's a must win for Ilkeston whereas a draw is more than acceptable for Walsall Wood. A cracker of a game awaits.
The following Saturday Walsall Wood are home to Leicester Road in another crucial league game.

Weather looks messy but I think we will be alright as long as the pitch is flat. Anyway it can't be called we have printed a 32page Xmas Special programme! Still only £2! Definitely MFL Programme of the Year contender.

Fantastic win for us but lets give some praise to Walsall Wood, easily the best team we've played against so far. Some excellent individuals but they also played as a well drilled team. Both of their goals were expertly taken. They are definitely the team to beat and are still in pole position. Well done to their officials who congratulated us at the end.

At this stage of the season Walsall Wood look to be the likely winners of the League. They have lost only 3 matches so far against Ilkeston 2-3, Atherstone 2-3 and Leicester Road 0-2. They drew at Nuneaton Griff 0-0 which is their only slip up against the lower teams. They consistently crush the inferior teams so the only realistic way that their rivals can catch up with them is if they lose at least three times in the five matches before the end of the season against Ilkeston (home), Studley (home and away), Leicester Road (home) and R C Warwick (home) Even that would probably not be enough. Walsall do have a small backlog of fixtures and the winter weather and injuries could affect their results but they are definitely in pole position.

Walsall Wood are due to play Heath Hayes tonight. They should win but you never know. I'll check for any Walsall Wood score updates when doing the live updates for tonight's Derbyshire Senior Cup quarter final tie between Ilkeston and Whaley Bridge here on Whiteball.
Unfortunately the match didn't go ahead due to a waterlogged pitch'

Today, weather permitting, we meet red hot favourites to win the league Walsall Wood. Of the 22 games they have played so far, 14 have been played away and only 8 have been played at home. In other words 13 of their remaining remaining 20 matches are home matches. And they currently have a 100% home record. That is why it will be so difficult for any other team to finish above them. Walsall Wood have only lost 3 matches and they have been against leading sides Leicester Road, Atherstone and Ilkeston. They do not lose when playing the lesser sides.
Even if Ilkeston were to win today, Walsall Wood will still be almost uncatchable. However let us go all out for the win. Let us be the first team to win on their ground and let us be the team to take six points off them.

OFF AGAIN! I think thats our 4th away game to be postponed due to unfit pitches.
So Frustrating!
