Well i take my hate off to all the players and officials in making this a good one to watch altho playing in that heat , it must have really hard . We deserved the win with some really good football with loads of really good chances to make the score a higher one . Cant really pick out a man of the match as it was a great team performance plus the tracking back by the players was great to see .

What a difference 48 hours can make. From being battered at Bamber Bridge to a superb attacking win against Hyde United. Hyde may have felt hard done by at half time when they trailed 3-0 but by full time they were fortunate that they hadn’t conceded more following a scintillating second half Ilkeston performance. The match was held up for 30 minutes when the referee couldn’t continue and a new official had to be found.
Ilkeston were without three regulars due to injuries and it was Hyde who made the better start. Lewis Rawsthorn tried to catch Dylan Wharton out with a quick fire effort but Ilkeston’s keeper recovered well. Rawsthorn then had a much better opportunity when found by Will Hall but put the ball over the bar. Against the run of play Ilkeston went ahead with a looping Sam Parker header from some way out which went in off the post. Soon after it was 2-0 when ilkeston were awarded a penalty for a handling offence. Keeper Yusuf Mersin went the right way but was unable to stop Jamie Walker’s spot kick. Hall almost got one back for Hyde with a thunderous shot which Wharton did well to parry and then see the follow up shot by Rawsthorn blocked. To add salt to Hyde’s wounds, Robbie Fox made it 3-0 in first half added time.
Seven minutes after the restart came the 30 minute delay whilst a new official was sought. The delay clearly affected Hyde more than Ilkeston as the hosts racked up chance after chance leaving the visitors hanging on. Connor Dixon made a great run down the right and his cross just failed to pick out Fox. Then L’Varn Brandy beat his man and crossed to Dylan Youmbi whose goal bound effort was brilliantly saved by Mersin. Next to go close was Walker whose turn and shot was just the wrong side off the far post. Mersin then pulled off a fine diving save to deny Brandy. Three minutes from time Hyde could have got on the score sheet through Antoine Makoli but he was denied by Wharton’s reflex save. Then in the closing seconds Youmbi nearly got the goal he richly deserved after rounding Mersin but he couldn’t turn the ball in from a tight angle.

No Thornhill, no Marshall and no Minkley but what a performance from the whole team. We got the all important first goal and never looked back. Hyde didn’t deserve to be three down at half time but we were brilliant in the second half and could easily have scored another three. Well done to Jordan Stevens playing a full back replacing Callum Minkley and Tyler Whyle replacing Tom Marshall. They exceeded my expectations. Connor Dixon put in a tireless performance until he’d got nothing left and Fox finally delivered with a superb header. What a game. It had everything including a 30 minute hold up and change of referee. If we could play like that every home match then surely more people would come to watch.

And a big well done to Mark Frost who quickly found a FA qualified referee willing to dash to the game and run the line. Had he not done so, the match would have been abandoned and had to be re-played.
