Sat 8 Nov 25 : Ilkeston v Ashton Utd : NMG ko 3pm

Our opponents this Saturday, Ashton United, made the playoffs last season. This season they are currently mid table afer losing their last two games. Last Saturday they suffered a 4-0 home defeat to Cleethorpes so they will be keen to bounce back from that humiliation.

Ashton record this season :   P14. W5  D4. L5. F17. A19. Points 19
Ashton away record.         :    P  6. W2. D2. L2. F.  8. A  6. Points   8

Re: Sat 8 Nov 25 : Ilkeston v Ashton Utd : NMG ko 3pm

.
Ashton have been one of the stronger teams in the league over the past two seasons
Last season they finished 5th and the season before 7th.

Since we were transferred to the Northern Premier League we have played against Ashton United four times and the last two occasions at the NMG ended in 2-2 draws

21 Nov 23.  Ilkeston 2  Ashton 2.    Walker (pen), Brandy
13 Apr 24    Ashton 1  Ilkeston 2.    Wafula, Cursons
28 Sep 24.  Ilkeston 2  Ashton 2.    Cursons, Marshall
01 Feb 25.  Ashton 2  Ilkeston 1     Brandy

In recent times, this will be the first time that Ilkeston have been above Ashton in the league table when the teams have met.

If we can avoid defeat this Saturday against Ashton we will be 8 matches unbeaten.

But that’s a long way short of the 14 match unbeaten run we had in the 2017-18 season in the Midland Football League Division One between 10 Oct 17 and 9 Jan 2018..

NPL preview of matches 8th November

Top-two showdown headlines bumper weekend
06 Nov 2025.    by JDG Media

Things are heating up as we edge closer towards the winter months, with yet another full round of games to digest in the Northern Premier League.

This week’s featured game sees a battle between the top two sides in the division as Warrington Rylands travel to Broadhurst Park to take on FC United of Manchester. Neil Reynolds’ side managed to put some distance between themselves and the chasing pack last weekend, and if Rylands can inflict a first home league defeat on FC United this season, Reynolds will boast a five-point gap between his current and former employers. For Mark Beesley’s side, it’s a chance to regain top spot with a win. And with games in hand on their fellow challengers, it presents a big opportunity to increase their title hopes.
Below them, Lancaster City know that they can’t go back top this weekend, but the current third-placed side will be hoping to cut the deficit between themselves and one of, if not both, of the sides ahead of them. Jimmy Marshall’s side have won just one of their last five, and they’re looking to get back to winning ways when they travel to a Cleethorpes Town side who have wobbled at home recently, failing to win their last three at the HPS Plant Hire Stadium.
New Guiseley boss Ian Richards was in attendance as Hednesford Town put five past the Lions at Nethermoor last weekend.  This week, the Pitmen take on Richards’ former employers, Stocksbridge Park Steels, at Keys Park. Stocksbridge’s slump in form after their former manager departed continued in midweek against Rushall Olympic, and they’ll be hoping to get back on track and end a three-game winless run.
With Leek Town not in action, they’ll have a close eye on Ian Richards’ first full game in charge at his new club as Guiseley travel to Whitby Town. A point for the Lions would see them overtake the Blues in the table and climb out of the relegation zone.  However, Guiseley are currently on a four-game winless run and will have their work cut out for them against a Whitby side who could possibly climb into the play-off places this weekend. They’ll need many results to go their way for that to happen. Firstly, Stockton Town, who round out the top five currently, travel to Warrington Town. Warrington’s mini-surge at home was struck down emphatically with an 8-0 defeat at Hebburn Town on their travels last week.  Despite their away struggles, Paul Carden’s side are still one of three sides unbeaten in front of their home fans in the league this season. The Yellows need a response, but so do their opponents Stockton, who shipped four without reply last time out at home against Ilkeston Town.
That win put Ilkeston up into sixth, and they, like Whitby, will have eyes on the top five this weekend when they welcome Ashton United to the Microlise New Manor Ground. After four straight defeats, Ian Deakin’s side have won four of their last five, scoring 15 goals across those five too. After also shipping four at home last week, Steve Cunningham’s Robins will be hoping to bounce back and move level with their hosts on Saturday
After falling agonisingly short in extra-time in their FA Cup first round matchup against League Two side Accrington Stanley, Gainsborough Trinity are back in league action at home to Rushall Olympic. Rushall managed to quell a three-game losing run in midweek against Stocksbridge, and, like Ashton, are also looking to pick up all three points to draw themselves level with the Holy Blues.
Elsewhere, the 8-0 thrashing of Warrington has Hebburn back in form after four games without a win. They’re aiming to climb back into the top half this weekend when they take on Prescot Cables, who sit just a point ahead of them.
And towards the foot of the table, Workington’s stay at the bottom was short-lived as they picked up only their second win of the season at Stocksbridge last weekend. The Reds are hoping to make it two in a row against a Hyde United side who themselves are aiming to stretch their winning run to three games.
And Morpeth Town, the side Workington leapfrogged last weekend, welcome Bamber Bridge to Craik Park. A win for the Highwaymen will see them chop the gap between themselves and safety to three points, whereas a win for the Brig will see them move within touching distance of the top five, and with games in-hand to boot.

 Fixtures - Saturday 8 November

  • Cleethorpes Town vs Lancaster City
  • FC United of Manchester vs Warrington Rylands
  • Gainsborough Trinity vs Rushall Olympic
  • Hednesford Town vs Stocksbridge Park Steels
  • Ilkeston Town vs Ashton United
  • Morpeth Town vs Bamber Bridge
  • Prescot Cables vs Hebburn Town
  • Warrington Town vs Stockton Town
  • Whitby Town vs Guiseley
  • Workington vs Hyde United

If you’ve not been for a while, now is a great time to re-visit the New Manor Ground on Awsworth Road.
The team are in good form, seven matches unbeaten.
The clubhouse is being totally transformed  (the smaller room is now finished to a very high standard.)
There’s a covered outside bar and seating area
We have a new scoreboard next to the Clocktower Stand being used for the first time on Saturday.

There’s never been a better time to come and check out  the facilities and atmosphere. Put on your warm clothes and bring the family or a friend. You'll enjoy a great afternoon of football and more.

Ashton United’s Match Preview

Match Preview: Ilkeston Town (A) 2025/26
Jacob Emery.   7 Nov

The Robins go head-to-head with fellow nicknamed opponents this weekend as they journey to Derbyshire.
Steve Cunningham’s men face off against Ilkeston Town at the New Manor Ground, the side which pushed the Robins all the way last season in the quest to claim a play-off place.

A Word From The Gaffer
Speaking after the 4-0 defeat to Cleethorpes Town, Steve Cunningham said: “I’ve got a duty to the club chairmen, David and Jonathan, and the club board, to perform. At the minute, the performance levels aren’t there despite the effort and time I put into it.” He continued by saying: “There’ll be a reaction. “We’re 14 games in and there’s a lot of football to be played yet and this is the sort of stuff where I’ll show how good I am (as a manager) I’m pretty certain on that.”

Opposition Watch
Ilkeston currently occupy sixth place in the league standings after a strong start to the campaign sees them on the cusp of the play-offs, and in the second round of the FA Trophy. Last time out, they picked up a comprehensive 4-0 win on the road away to Stockton Town. A Harvey Kirby-Moore brace as well as goals from Sam Parker and Jordan Stevens rounded off the scoring.

Last Time We Met
Both sides last faced off against one another at Hurst Cross in February. A Darius Osei brace helped to claim three points in a 2-1 victory.

Matchday
Tickets are available to purchase for cash or card payments on the gate. They are priced at £13 for adults, £9 for concessions, £2 for juniors aged 16 and under, while under-11s enter for free with a paying adult.

So Manager Steve Cunningham is saying that Ashton's 4-0 defeat to Cleethorpes was not his fault and he’s going to show what a good manager he is.

Change as little as possible, so just Ross-Lang at left-back and Parker to centre-back, and the rest like last week at Stockton.
