Prescot Cables have announced the departure of goalkeeper Calvin Hare and striker Ben Elliott, amid financial uncertainty at the club.
Hare joined the club from City of Liverpool in October 2024 and has been a mainstay ever since, featuring 54 times in all competitions for Cables. He scored a memorable last-gasp equaliser against Hyde United earlier this season in the FA Cup to force a replay.
The club say that Hare requested an increase to his wages, which was rejected, and he has now departed to explore opportunities elsewhere.
Another to leave the club due to work and travel commitments is striker Elliott, who first arrived at the Pesky Bulls in the summer of 2024. He scored nine times last season and has added a further eight so far this campaign - more than any other player at the club in 2025/26.
A statement released by the club's board of directors earlier this week described the jump to Step 3 as their "biggest challenge yet". They confirmed that as well as reducing the size of the playing squad, manager Ste Daley and his backroom team had also taken significant pay cuts in order to "protect the club's future".
The statement added: "To keep the club sustainable and competitive, we’ve had to make some incredibly tough calls regarding our finances. "Now, we need you to improve our attendances. Without you we simply cannot sustain our current outgoings. "Times are tough for everyone, and we know the price of football is rising. But every person through the turnstile makes a difference. Let’s fill the ground, get behind the lads, and show the league what Prescot is made of."
Cables have already announced Hare's replacement between the posts, with young Wigan Athletic shot-stopper Matteo Spinelli arriving at the club on loan. The 19-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell in the National League North with Marine earlier this season. In further positive news, an agreement has been reached with Everton to extend the loan of Bradley Moonan, while Preston North End academy youngster Somto Ifezue has also joined on a 28-day work experience loan.
