Newcastle University v Alnwick Town 14.03.26

Alnwick Town take on Newcastle University looking to extend ther two match unbeaten run and maybe make a late play off push. Last weekend Alnwick beat Park View in a thrilling game which was decided by a late penalty from Phillip Bright. Alnwick took the lead through Ryan Short but were pegged back by Park View. Then Lewis Fairbairn restored Alnwick's lead only for a dogged Park View to equalise yet again five minutes from full time. The visitors bench were elated to be on level terms in a game which they had been second best for long periods. However Alnwick had different ideas and when Park View's goalkeeper mistimed his clearance letting Max Anderson to set up Michael Laws whose shot was blocked by the hand of a desperate defender. Despite the visitors protestations Alnwick were awarded a spot kick which Bright coolly despatched to win the game 3-2.
Alnwick will be hoping to better when they met the University in the Northumberland Senior Cup when they were well beaten by a young and enthusiastic team.
