This is the pre-season friendly with more meaning than the previous two. This time we will be competing against a Step 2 team. It will be harder to score and defensive mistakes will be punished. 
I’ll be there if I can get a lift.

Match Preview | Worksop Town vs Ilkeston Town

The Robins are back on the road this Saturday as preparations for the 2026/27 campaign continue with a trip to face National League North opposition, Worksop Town. Following consecutive pre-season victories over Belper United and Stapleford Town, Tris Whitman’s side will be looking to continue building momentum against what promises to be their toughest test of the summer so far. Tuesday night’s home fixture saw the Robins produce another encouraging performance, with a number of positive displays as the squad continues to develop its fitness and understanding ahead of the new season.

Reflecting on the win over Stapleford Town, manager Tris Whitman said:
“Tuesday’s game against Stapleford was our first opportunity to play in front of the home fans.
“We felt that this was an opportunity for us to continue working on our way of playing, mainly in possession.
“After the opening 15 minutes, I felt we did this very well, dominating the ball and territory, which allowed us to threaten from wide areas.
“That led to us going into half-time 2-0 up.
“Second-half changes again affected the flow, but we were able to make it three with a really well-constructed goal, finished off with our two forwards combining.
“The game became stretched for the final 20 minutes, possibly due to fatigue, and Stapleford were able to threaten and perhaps should have scored from the chances they created.
“Overall, it was another positive performance and more valuable work towards developing our fitness as we move through pre-season.
“Saturday’s game against Worksop will present a different challenge, so it’ll be interesting to gauge where we’re at against tougher opposition.”
Supporters are encouraged to get behind the Robins as another important test awaits, with the squad continuing to take shape ahead of the new campaign.

Close range Worksop effort hits the underside of the crossbar. That was close. Trialist Reason has made a good start. Some good "keep ball" by Ilkeston but they have not threatened to score.

Ilkeston free kick relieves some early Worksop pressure. Chance for Reason but he’s crowded out.  0-0      33 mins

Ilkeston still defending well but attacks are rare.   Some good forward moves but breaking down before a chance is created.   0-1.    44 mins

It s been a fair performance so far. Whilst we’ve created very few chances going forward we’ve defended okay. In my opinion, trialist No7 (Demas) has done well in midfield and Cashmere Rowe looks very skilful. Jevin Seaton has not had much service but trialist 11 (Reason) has figured in most of our attacks. Pharrell and Elwalid have looked secure at the back. We’ve not had a corner which is a pity. Would be interesting  to see Pharrell and Elwalid come up for a corner

Worksop keeper has to leave his area to head clear then ball goes to Joyce but keeper saves his effort. Better from Ilkeston now and Reason's shot hits the post      2-0.    50 mins

Ilkeston are much more an attacking force this half. No 7 Demas is full of confidence and running midfield.

Worksop counter attack ends with a good effort over the bar.  It’s an even half in terms of possession but Worksop are making the better opportunities. Wilson saves Worksop header      2-1.   80 mins

Two player s clash heads and Ilkeston player Ross- Lang comes off worst.  He’s recovered . Free kick to Worksop but it’s collected by Wilson.

The team is starting to take shape now. They passed the Worksop test with their best performance so far. Against Belper United and Stapleford it was too easy but at Sandy Lane they showed that they could compete at the level we’re at. We took some time to get going in the first half and were second best but after the break we did much better and matched Worksop until the final ten minutes when we ran low on energy. 
In the first half when Worksop were dominant our two big men at the back Pharrell Johnson and Elwalid Elhagany defended well and I thought right back Cashmere Rowe looked skilful. It was only 1-0 until just before half time when Worksop doubled their lead. But we didn’t crumble and after the break we matched Worksop and deservedly pulled a goal back. Worksop were the better side going forward and always looked more likely to score than we did but for sure we did better than I expected. We had loads of possession and showed some good one touch passing.
Trialist No 11 (Reason) featured in the few attacks we had in the first half. In my opinion our second half improvement was down to midfield Trialist No 7 (Demas). He was full of confidence and showed his strength and ability, man of the match for me. I was told he played for Notts County previously. Striker Jevin Seaton, star man in the previous two friendlies, found it much tougher against a robust Worksop defence and keeper Sam Wilson made some decent saves.
