 .
Clipstone play in the United Counties League Division One - the same as Stapleford Town who we played against recently.
Their season starts 25th July and they play Stapleford Town away in their first league match

One of their pre-season friendlies was against Anstey Nomads (away) on 7th July. The result was a 3-3 draw so it looks like Clipstone are a decent dide

It’s match day for the Ilkeston fans making the journey to Clipstone village this evening,
Clipstone village is 3 miles east of Mansfield.
The journey from Ilkeston is 21 miles via the M1 and takes 40 minutes.

This game follows a highly encouraging perfomance at Worksop where we competed well against Step 2 opposition. It gives the players and trialists another opportunity to stake their claim for a place in the starting eleven on opening match day, 8th August.

We’re at Clipstone and it’s now 25 minutes to kickoff. It’s a grass pitch and it’s looking good. The sprinklers are on.

Re: Tue 14 Jul 26 Clipstone v Ilkeston (friendly)

Apparently the plan was to play the trialists in the first half and play the stronger team in the second half.

Didn't see anything special from the trialists in the first half.

Another good stop by Wilson and the follow up shot flies over. Ilkeston No 19 fouled just outside area. He takes the free kick and its only just wide.  another chance for No 19 but the keeper denies him.   Strong Ilkeston finish.       2-4.    85 mins

Re: Tue 14 Jul 26 Clipstone v Ilkeston (friendly)

.
With so many trialists taking part (eight in total) the performance was never going to match that what was seen at Worksop and in fairness it’s difficult for trialists because they have to try to catch the eye rather than doing the simple things. So the match looked like an established team against a team of individuals. Clipstone were the dominant force in the first half and created several chances but failed to take them. Ilkeston came more into the game in the second half but Clipstone continued to create and miss opportunities.
Jordan Stevens played in the first half. He looked confident, showed some good touches and scored Ilkeston’s first goal. Logan Green started alongside Elwalid Elhagany in defence in the first half. Elhagany went off leaving Green as the main central defender and he had a decent game. Sam Wilson made some good saves but like Alfie Roberts before him he sometimes wanders out of his goal. He was caught out on one occasion last night and beaten by a shot from distance. Despite not playing particularly well we won by 4-2 because we took our chances and Clipstone didn’t. There has to be a positive there somewhere. The dry grass pitch caused the ball to run untrue occasionally but Clipstone looked a very decent side and will feel the scoreline was not a true reflection of the effort that put in.I’m told that one of the Ilkeston trialists has scored now scored 4 goals so maybe he’s done enough. I also keep being told that more signings are imminent. Hopefully we’ll hear more in the next few days.
