    With results between top seven teams likely to decide who wins the league and the single promotion spot, January and February could be defining months for Ilkeston.  Of the eight scheduled fixtures, four are against our rival top seven teams.

          Sat  Jan 13   Atherstone      -   home
          Sat  Jan  20  Walsall Wood   -  away

          Tue  Feb 20  Leicester Road   -  away
          Sat   Feb 24  Hinckley AFC     -  away

    The three away fixtures will be particularly difficult games. I would say we can't afford to drop more than two points in the four fixtures .  It's massive ask but if we were to win all four matches then we would probably deserve to be champions.  But we still need the other teams to take points off Walsall Wood.

    I think your correct. I still feel Walsall Wood are the best team we've played this season and they are still the team to beat. They have games in hand a strong squad and they convincingly beat some of other teams at the top. It will be interesting to see if recent defeats have dented their confidence. I did think RC Warwick were dark horses but they have not played many of the teams at the top yet. Ilkeston Town really just need to keep winning because it's not a bad habit to have and confidence must be high at the moment.
    Anyway what a season already!

    Yes what a season. Just to be rescued and playing this season was wonderful. To be playing so well and on a magnificent run of wins is doubly wonderful. To be in with a chance of winning the league is dreamland. We're only half way through the season so there's still a long way to go but it's so good to be in the position that we now find ourselves. We owe so much to Alan Hardy.  Steve Chettle is doing a remarkable job as we knew he would. We didn't know what the standard of football would be like in this league and I think most supporters have been pleasantly surprised.  We have a strong squad of players who are doing us proud but let's not expect too much. Let's not forget we started with no players three weeks before the season started and it took us a few weeks to find our feet which was only to be expected  The team are now making a super human effort  to make up for that average start. Where ever we finish it has still been a brilliant season but hold on to the dream, with a bit of luck we can do it.

    This Saturday 20th January sees three clashes between top seven teams. ( Littleton are now in 7th position )

    Leicester Road (2nd) v  Littleton (7th)
    Racing Club Warwick (6th)  v  Studley (5th)
    Walsall Wood (1st) v  Ilkeston  (4th)

    ALL of the top teams (with the obvious exception of Walsall Wood) will be hoping for Ilkeston to win.  An Ilkeston win would keep the other challengers' hopes alive.  
    Leicester Road have a difficult encounter against improved Littleton which could go either way.
    Racing Club Warwick are probably the best placed team to catch Walsall Wood and will hope to gain ground by beating Studley who have stuttered recently and conceded seven goals last Saturday.

    Leicester Road have 4 matches (R C Warwick, Hinckley, Atherstone and R C Warwick)
    Ilkeston have 4 matches ( R C Warwick, Studley, R C Warwick and Walsall Wood)
    Hinckley have 5 matches (Studley, Leicester Road, R C Warwick, Atherstone and R C Warwick)
    Studley have 4 matches (Hinckley, R C Warwick, Ilkeston and Walsall Wood)
    R C Warwick have 9 matches (Leicester Road, Studley, Ilkeston, Hinckley, Ilkeston, Atherstone, Walsall Wood, Hinckley and Leicester Road)

    It is also interesting that as things stand 9  games involving the top teams will be played between the 14th and 28th April making it a hectic end to the season when final placings will be decided.
