Notts and Derbyshire Round Up 8th August 2026
 
Ilkeston Town entertained Stockton Town fearing the worst after a complete rebuild over the summer. The visitors looked to have the best of the opportunities in the first half but the Robins got back into the game and won with a dramatic strike from Linden Joyce in the ninety-sixth minute. A tremendous result for the new management team at the NMG. Derbyshire rivals Alfreton Town lost out to relegated Curzon Ashton when Harvey Roberts scored a sixty fourth minute winner. On X Alfreton described their performance as ‘gritty’. Their team contained five ex-Robins Sam Parker, Dyan Youmbi, Reco Fyfe, Connor Dixon and Jakub Kruzynski in the starting line up and Daniel Odunaiya on the bench.
 
Elsewhere Derby County were dumped out of the Carabao up by newly promoted Lincoln City. The Imps went two nil before the Rams could back into the through Smodicz on the stroke of half-time. Their revival stopped there and the Linconshire went home with a well deserved win. Notts County took the lead at Burnley through a Callum Roberts goal on forty two minutes only to be pegged back six minutes later through Zian Fleming. Burnley won the resulting penalty shoot out 4-3. It was heartbreak for Burton Albion who took an early lead through Zak Scott on fourteen minutes only for Blackburn Rovers to sneak the win with two goals in the last ten minutes. Chesterfield lost out to Fleetwood Town through a Ched Evans goal. 
 
In the National League North Buxton beat Hereford 2-1 and Worksop Town went to Darlington and won by the same scoreline.
 
In the Northern Premier League Division One East Matlock Town lost at home to Dunston 2-0 with Nic Bollado scoring both goals in the first half. in the Midlands Division Basford United beat Barwell 1-0 with a Nyle Blake goal ten minutes from time. Basford included ex-Robins MattYates and Ryan Wilson and Barwell fielded Ethan Hill and Aaron O’Connor. Shepshed Dynamo and Belper Town fought out a 0-0 draw. Shepshed had Kyle Dixon on their bench and Belper fielded Jonathon Wafula as a starter and Curtis Burrows and Jack Roger on the subs bench. Carlton Town came from Behind to beat St Ives 3-2 with ex Robin Jack Thomas getting the second goal. Carlton also included ex-Robins Nat Watson and Dean Freeman in their starting line up and had Matt Thornhill as an unused sub.
 
In the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup AFC Mansfield beat Retford United 1-0 to progress to the nest round. Belper United were knocked out 2-1 by Bedworth United despite taking an early lead at the Don Amott Stadium in front of only 75 fans. Hucknall Town also left the competition after being defeating 1-0 at Desborough Town. Gresely Rovers were well beaten 3-0 by Boldmere St Michaels and Kimberley Miners Welfare were also thrashed 5-0 by AFC Rushed and Diamonds despite finding ex Robins captain Tom Hilton, Jordan Wheatley and Ryan Wheatley. Long Eaton United came from behind at Leicester Nirvana to win 2-1 though late goals from Jahvan Davidson-Miller and James Taylor. Eastwood CFC beat Loughborough Students with goals from ex-Robin Paddy Webb and Tyler Blake. the Badgers also included ex Robins Kieran Fenton, Curtis Thompson and Jamie Walker in the staring eleven and had Callun Chettle, Thomas Marshall and L’Varn Brandy on the bench. Newark Town were well beaten 4-0 by Wellingborough Town whilst Sherwood Colliery beat Moulton 3-2 an Retford beat Skegness Town 2-0. Finally Clay Cross Town with Alex Marshall playing again at centre half lost 2-1 after taking the lead through ex-Robin Basille Zottos.
