We knew it was going to be tough competing at this level with a new team. The two opening wins gave us false hope before reality kicked in at Whitby.
Warrington and Cleethorpes have shown up our deficiencies and there are at least another 12 teams of similar high quality. The team we have are doing their best but are just not as good as the majority of teams in this league. What do we do? Do we persevere and trust that performances will improve given time? We have to pick up points where we can from the games against the weaker teams but that won’t be easy as was found out at Whitby. After the next two away matches against Ashton United and Bury, we could find ourselves in the relegation places. We really need a good performance at one of those games to lift the spirits of both the players and supporters. Yesterday was the first time we’ve conceded three goals so we’re not at crisis point yet, but I’m fearing we could be in for heavier defeats at Ashton and Bury.
So far we’ve been alright in one half of a match but not the full 90 minutes. I think defensively we’ve done okay (mainly due to Pharrell), but up front we seem totally reliant on Dwyer or Hunter to get us a goal. Poor results will inevitably see gates fall which is not what we want. 
We’re only five games into the season so maybe it’s too early to make judgements. Tuesday night at Ashton is a chance to revive optimism before our biggest test at Bury.
