Sat 5th Sep ’26 : Leamington v Ilkeston (FA Cup) ko 3pm

After 6 games without a win we have a break from league action and take on Leamington in the FA Cup.

Last season Leamington were relegated from the National League North and now play in the Southern League Premier Central. They have not made the best of starts and and are currently 17th in the table (the same as Ilkeston).

Leamington record so far : P6.  W1.  D2.  L3.  GD-4.  Points 5
Leamington home record : P3.  W0.  D2.  L1   GD -1  Points 2

Leamington got their first win last night (Tues 1st Sep) when they inflicted a first defeat on Stourbridge by 2-0.
Their last two results have been that 2-0 away win at Stourbridge and a 1-1 home draw with Worcester City so they come into the cup tie with a bit more confidence than Ilkeston.

Their average attendance this season is 643

We needed a reaction on Monday and unfortunately we didn’t get it.  We have a second chance against Leamington and we can’t afford to slip up again.

We need to put the "Brakes" on Leamington's two game unbeaten run.

Our recent FA Cup history

Season 2025-26 we exited the FA Cup at the first hurdle losing 2-1 at home to Spalding
Season 2024-25 we beat Heanor 1-0 before losing to Hereford 1-0 in a replay after drawing at Hereford
Season 2023-24 we lost in the 1st qualifying round at Micklelover 0-3
Season 2022-23 we beat Matlock 2-0 before losing to Anstey Nomads on penalties
Season 2021-22 we lost in the 1st quaifying round 1-0 at Halesowen

Season 2020-21 we progressed to the 4th qualifying round.
In the preliminary round  we beat Shepshed at the NMG 3-0
In the 1st qualifying round we beat Coventry Sphinx away 2-0
in the 2nd qualifying round we beat Hanley 4-1 at the NMG
In the 3rd qualifying round we beat Alvechurch 1-0 at the NMG
in the 4th qualifying round we lost to Hartlepool  6-0 at the NMG

* The 2020-21 season was cut short by COVID, We were in the Step 4 NPL South East Division and we played only 13 matches that season, 5 in the FA Cup, 1 in the FA Trophy and 7 league matches. The following season we were moved to the newly formed NPL Midlands Division and won promotion to Step 3.

An FA Cup win against Leamington could be just what we need right now to instill some confidence

Leamington Football Club was actually established as a works team, with Lockheed Borg & Beck starting the side in 1933. Initially playing in the Warwick & District League and given the name ‘the Brakes’ on account of the product manufacturing done by the company it was a works team for, the club joined the Coventry Works League for the 1934-1935 season. There were numerous changes of divisions in the years that followed, as well as several name changes. The club became Lockheed Leamington in 1947, for example, then becoming AP Leamington when Lockheed was re-named to Automotive Productions in 1973.

Maybe we could play with two wide players, L’Varn Brandy and Dylan Reason.to see if that makes a difference to our attacking options.

Why is Cashmere Rowe out of favour? He looked like one of our best players.
Why hasn’t Noah Simmons had a chance?

This would be my starting Xl to play against Leamington
1 Wilson
2 Rowe
3 Ross-Lang
4 Adiefeh
5 Johnson
6 Elhaghany or Hawkridge
7 Brandy
8 Dwyer
9 Seaton
10 Hunter
11 Reason

That would be a wake-up call for players like Newell, Robinson, Joyce, Belgrave and Daniel who  in my opinion have not shown enough fight so far.

Looking at Leamington’s recent form and relegation I am quietly confident that the Robin come away with a result from tomorrow’s FA Cup encounter!

After eight matches in August, we only have 4 matches in September, unless we are involved in replays.

Can the four new players bring about a change in results? Hawkridge, Brandy, Reason and Grewal-Pollard are available for the Cup match at Leamington.
