Re: Central Conference Cup Final

Result  -  Ilkeston 1  GEMEG  3
Ilkeston were second best against a fiercely competitive GEMEG side who were worthy winners on the night.   Unfortunately as the game drew to a close, sporadic fighting kept breaking out involving nearly all of the players. Amazingly no red cards were shown after officials of both teams had to come to the aid of the match officials to separate the offenders. Roy Lee scored Ilkeston's goal from the penalty spot.
GEMEG unsettled Ilkeston with  a terrific start scoring twice early on. Ilkeston rallied but GEMEG always looked the more likely to get the next goal and half time came with Ilkeston still in the match. The second half saw Ilkeston try to get back in the game but despite decent possession they failed to test the visiting keeper. GEMEG had some outstanding individual players and they got a third near the end which was quickly followed by Lee's consolation for Ilkeston.
The mass brawl in the final minutes caused the game to end on a sour note but after an end of match team talk on the pitch, the Ilkeston coaches insisted that their players go over to congratulate their opponents. The Cup was eventually presented to the victors and the final game of the season at the NMG was over.

Re: Central Conference Cup Final

The young lads will learn a lot from this experience. Rising above provocation is a learned skill and controlling the passion is an essential attribute of a professional sportsman.
