Coventry United v Ilkeston Town : Live Updates

The pitch inspection has taken place and it's game on. If you can't get to the game you can follow it's progress here. It's Lee Fowler's first game in charge and it's going to be played in very wet conditions. There's one game off so far :  Loughborough University v Worcester City.

Re: Coventry United v Ilkeston Town : Live Updates

It's coming up to kick off. Lovely stand runs the length of the pitch but the actual playing surface does not look so good

Big Chance for United but Kyle Barnett fires over when he should have scored. It's really heavy going for the players. Reeves is getting close attention. Bennett looks like he's not missed a match.      0-0   17 minutes

Re: Coventry United v Ilkeston Town : Live Updates

Strong finish to the first half by Coventry. Good Ilkeston break as Malachi finds Walker. Free kick to Coventry in good position.  Its blocked as the half time whistle goes.    It's no score and a fair reflection.

Chance for Reeves but he loses control.  Rickford  or was it Marshall thought he'd scored the winner but its disallowed. Linesman's flag is up

Tom Marshall booked I think for kicking ball away.  Now Walker booked. Free kick for Coventry on edge of area.  Ilkeston clear and there goes the whistle for full time.

Re: Coventry United v Ilkeston Town : Live Updates

Sat 22nd December  2018  -   Midland Football League  Premier Division
Coventry United  0  Ilkeston Town  0
Lee Fowler’s first game in charge ended in a goalless draw. After the torrential rain it was always going to be difficult for the players on a really soft surface. Although there were no goals it was entertaining throughout and either side could have won. Coventry had more chances but Ilkeston almost got a winner near the end only to be denied by the linesman’s flag. Ilkeston started on the front foot. Kyle Dixon set Jamie Walker free down the left and when the ball reached Billy Bennett his shot was deflected just wide. Ilkeston then had another big chance on ten minutes when Bennett fired the ball across the face of the goal and Elliott Reeves was inches away from turning it in. At the other end Kyle Barnett blasted over with just Liam Mitchell to beat. Reeves was getting close attention but he managed to get in a good shot that Bunn saved at the second attempt. At the other end Mitchell did well to tip a shot over the bar as Coventry finished the half strongly.  After the restart Mitchell made an important double save denying Cairns and then Ellis. Coventry had another good chance when Holt looked likely to score but Bennett made a saving block. Luke Jones then saw his shot go narrowly wide and Holt fired wildly over as Coventry pressed for the opening goal. Reeves had a chance for Ilkeston before Alex Marshall thought he’d got the winner in the dying moments with a fine header but to Coventry’s relief and Ilkeston’s disappointment the linesman’s flag was raised.
