Stourport Swifts v Ilkeston Town - Live Updates

After three disappointing defeats in our last five games and one point from our last three league matches it is now vital that we turn things round at Stourport and avoid defeat at the very least. Stourport are in a rich vein of form and will be happy to be playing against us at a time when we are stuttering.  We really need to get a response from our players to end this run of poor results. We can do it. We did it at Westfields and we can do it again but this match will be a real test. We need to regain our lost confidence and take the initiative. If we can do this then we have every chance of a result. Maybe we need a bit of luck to go our way. We certainly need our supporters right behind us and for the team to show a hundred per cent commitment.
I think this is a pivotal moment in our season. The result of this match may determine our destiny in terms of promotion. Please let the players and supporters do their utmost to get the result we need and end 2018 on a positive note.

Re: Stourport Swifts v Ilkeston Town - Live Updates

Updates as usual this afternoon. We're at Walshes Meadow early for this afternoon match.   The pitch looks alright, it's on the soft side obviously so hope it doesn't cut up too much.
At the moment the sun is shining brightly. The Swifts officials are full of confidence and telling us that we're going to get beat.

Rickford powers in with a header. Its off target but he did well to get to it. Terrific effort by Walker. He gets past keeper but can't find the angle. Shaw does well to stop Downing. It's a fast start.        0-0     13 minutes

Good cross by Ryan Wheatley is diverted for a corner which is cleared.  Ryan Wheatley brought down after good run up the wing.  Two chances fall to Reeves and he's narrowly too high.  Good burst of speed by Green. Ilkeston are edging it       0-0      28 minutes

Re: Stourport Swifts v Ilkeston Town - Live Updates

Excellent cross by Downing and White does well to head clear. Really Bad foul by Billingham on Walker.  Billingham  only gets a yellow,  He's very lucky not to see red..  Rickford gets a header on target from the resultant free kick but keeper saves.     0-0  44 minutes

Re: Stourport Swifts v Ilkeston Town - Live Updates

Free kick Ilkeston 30 yards out central. Walkers shot deflected over for corner.  Keeper does really well to tip out for another corner.   Brilliant saving tackle by Ryan as Sourport break.   Defender clears as Alex looks set to score. Corner now to Stourport.  It's cleared.        0-0   85 minutes

Re: Stourport Swifts v Ilkeston Town - Live Updates

Sat 29th December 2018  -  Midland Football League  Premier Division
Stourport Swifts  1  Ilkeston Town  1
It’s now four games without a win for Ilkeston but this was a much improved performance against a Stourport Swifts side who had previously won five of their last six matches. Ilkeston were denied the victory they deserved by a scrambled equaliser two minutes into added time after Elliott Reeves had given them the lead. The Robins started well and Jamie Walker nearly put them ahead on 13 minutes. He did well to block the outrushing keeper’s attempted clearance but wasn’t able to find the net from the acute angle. Drew Canavan had a chance for Stourport but his hurried shot was wide. Reeves was just too high with a good effort and Walker was even closer after cutting inside and letting fly. At the other end Lavell White did really well to divert a dangerous cross by Jack Downing. Just before half time Joe Billingham was guilty of a reckless challenge on Walker and was lucky to see a yellow card rather than red. On the hour Dixon hit a terrific shot which was brilliantly tipped over by Dominic Richards. At the other end Liam Mitchell made an important save and both Matt Baker and Ryan Wheatley came to Ilkeston's rescue with saving tackles when Stourport counter attacked. The goal drama came late and Ilkeston thought they had won it in the 88th minute with a superb goal. Dixon made a wonderful run through the middle and fed Reeves who found the net with a rasping finish. As the match went into added time Stourport threw every one forward in search of an equaliser and it came following a free kick near the corner flag. There was a frenetic scramble in the goalmouth and to Ilkeston’s anguish the ball ended up in the net poked in by Nick McPherson.
