Staveley MW v Ilkeston - Live Updates

It's a nice sunny evening and a perfect playing surface for tonight's pre season friendly at Staveley. Kick off is in 15 minutes. Ilkeston have brought a big squad so not sure of the starting team at the moment.

We're off. Early chance for Staveley but Durrant saves well. Good opening exchanges. Chance for Hearn as Ilkeston start to dominate. 10 minutes gone

Re: Staveley MW v Ilkeston - Live Updates

Defender clears as Rose seemed set to score. Great run by Dwyer but his cross is cleared. Long shot by Rose is just too high. 20 minutes no score.

Re: Staveley MW v Ilkeston - Live Updates

Scare for Ilkeston as Staveley twice go close in quick succession. Hearn shot goes wrong side of post. Both sides playing decent football. Dwyer tries his luck but keeper saves. Great pressing by Ilkeston as Hearn then Rose go close.  Half hour gone still no score.

Re: Staveley MW v Ilkeston - Live Updates

Dwyer is causing all sorts of problems when he takes on the Staveley defenders. Baker denied when trying to get on the end of a set piece. 40 minutes 0-0.

Re: Staveley MW v Ilkeston - Live Updates

Another good move by Ilkeston ends with Hearn off target. It's half time and it's been a much better performance by Ilkeston who have dominated, made plenty of chances but have been unable to find the net so far.

Re: Staveley MW v Ilkeston - Live Updates

No half time changes by Ilkeston as second half starts. Great save by Durrant denies Staveley on the break. Cracker from Hearn rattles the crossbar. It's still shaking. Staveley have their best chance. Dwyer replaced by Dexter Atkinson  on 58 minutes.

Timely interception by Bather.  Ilkeston still pressing but it's sill goalless on 70 minutes

Shelton so close with blast on 73 minutes. Ilkeston find net but its offside. 16 year old Sierra Leone kid on for Ilkeston. Great skill by Goddard takes him away from two opponents. Substitutions have lifted Ilkeston.

Re: Staveley MW v Ilkeston - Live Updates

In my opinion this was a really good workout on an excellent pitch. Paul Holland may now be nearer to deciding on his best eleven after trying out a slightly different formation. All those involved last night did well and must be in with a chance. At the back we looked sound with Baker and Foster looking a very good defensive pairing. Number 11 Bather had an excellent game as a competent looking wing back allowing Coleman to push forward. Goddard had a decent game in midfield along with Shelton.  Dwyer and Rose were both very lively up front and Hearn was getting into some good positions. Overall it was a good team display against a decent Staveley side who came close to holding on for a draw but Ilkeston's superior fitness told in the end when two late goals sealed a deserved win.
