Movement over the last two months

We will soon be moving into the the penultimate month of the season and the single promotion place is within our grasp. There are five other teams in with a chance but we are in pole position. Ilkeston's prospects have improved over the last two months as our rivals have dropped more points than us  This was the position at the end of December ’18 when it was really tight at the top.
                                                 Played       Points
      Ilkeston Town                          24              48
      Walsall Wood                          24              47
      Coventry Sphinx                     24              46
      Westfields                               25              45
      Shepshed                               22              41
      Sporting Khalsa                      22              41

Janauary saw Ilkeston improve their position as their rivals began to drop points.
Ilkeston : had a decent month : played 4 matches. winning 3 and drawing 1.
Walsall Wood  had a bad month : played 4, won 1 drew 1 and lost against Coventry Utd and Wulfrunians.
Westfields : played 3 ,won 1 drew 1 and lost to Khalsa.
Khalsa  : played 3 won 2 and lost to Long Eaton.
Shepshed had a bad month : played 5, won 1 drew 2 and lost to Stourport and Khalsa.
Coventry Sphinx had a bad month : played 2 and lost both to Wolves Sporting and Long Eaton.

This was the position at the end of January ’19
                                                   Played          Points
      Ilkeston Town                            28                58
      Walsall Wood                            28                51
      Westfields                                 28                49
      Sporting Khalsa                        25                47
      Shepshed                                 27                46
      Coventry Sphinx                       26                46

February saw more mixed results for the top six.
Ilkeston : played 2  lost at Quorn but won the big one against Khalsa
Walsall Wood  : played 2 won 1 and drew1
Westfields  : played 3 won 1 and drew 2
Khalsa had a bad month :  played 3 , won 1 and lost to Shepshed and Ilkeston.
Shepshed : played 3 won 2 but lost to Romulus
Coventry Sphinx had a bad month  : played 2 drew 1 and lost to Khalsa

This is the current position at the end of February ’19
                                                      Played         Points
       Ilkeston Town                            30                61
       Walsall Wood                            30                55
      Westfields                                  31                54
      Shepshed                                  30                52
      Sporting Khalsa                         28                50
      Coventry Sphinx                        28                47

Our lead has improved over the last couple of months with all of the contenders dropping points. But as we get near to the end of the season then the chance of recovering after a slip up becomes less as the remaining games diminish.

These are the March fixtures for each of the contenders
Ilkeston Town :       Lye Town (A), Shepshed (H), Long Eaton (A), Wulfrunians (A)
Walsall Wood :       Stourport (A), Dunkirk (A). Coventry Sphinx (H), Loughborough Univ (A)
Westfields :            Loughborough (H), Cov Utd (A), Highgate (H), Shepshed (A), Long Eaton (H)
Shepshed  :            Long Eaton (A), Ilkeston (A). Westfields (H), Worcester (A)
Sporting Khalsa :   Lye Town (H),Cov Sphinx (H) Sth Normanton (A), Loughborough (A) Highgate (A). Wolves Sporting (A)
Coventry Sphinx :  Wulfrunians (H), Worcester (A,) Sporting Khalsa (A), Sth Normanton (H), Walsall Wood (A), Stourport (H).

Our nearest rivals Walsall Wood and Sporting Khalsa are well capable of winning all of their March matches. They both have to play Coventry Sphinx but that looks like the only difficult game they each have. All of Walsall Wood's and Khalsa's other matches are against teams in the bottom half of the table.
So Ilkeston must also win every one of their games in order to keep their lead intact.  Apart from Lye Town, our other opponents are all in the top half to the table, Shepshed 5th, Long Eaton 9th and Wulfrunians 8th. These are all tricky games for Ilkeston compared to Walsall Wood's and Khalsa's.

So March is a month when Walsall Wood and Sporting Khalsa will hope to make inroads into Ilkeston's lead at the top but they can't do that if we keep winning.
